To most of us a pile of bricks is just a mess that needs to be cleaned up, but Thorsten Bonsch (Xenomurphy) rearranged a pile of bricks into an artistic depiction of Spider-Man.

Beautiful LEGO bonsai
Japanese artist Azuma Makoto usually creates his botanically themed pieces from real plants, but occasionally dabbles with materials as diverse as Astroturf and LEGO. One of his latest pieces is a gorgeous recreation of a bonsai pine tree built from bricks.

The ladies of LEGO space
We featured the LEGO-inspired artwork of the Surma Bros. back in June. Marcin and Przemek post stylized versions of classic LEGO sets every Sunday.
LEGO fans have bemoaned the dearth of female LEGO minifigs over the years. In the past, each LEGO theme usually included just one woman — a world I wouldn’t want to live in, but appealing to 9-year-old boys, I suppose. One of the Surma Bros’ latest drawings features all of the ladies of the LEGO Space themes over the years, including Classic Space, M-Tron, Exploriens, and Ice Planet 2002.
Speaking of Ice Planet 2002, Marcin and Przemek also posted a beautiful poster highlighting this much-maligned and belatedly loved theme.
Autumn in the Park
My favorite quote from H.P. Lovecraft inspired this surrealist work. The quote goes like this: “the blind cosmos grinds aimlessly on from nothing to something and from something back to nothing again, neither heeding nor knowing the wishes or existence of the minds that flicker for a second now and then in the darkness.”
You can buy this creation from Creations for Charity, and there’s only 5 days left before the store closes for this year!
Rush Album Cover Mosaic
We have posted a lot of album covers over the years but this particular one, by Isaac Mazer is one of the best. The fact that he was able to get the perspective so perfect is amazing. It is so good that I didn’t realize it was actually a mosaic…incredible!
Many thanks to Katie Walker for the heads up.
Support Mike Doyle’s Odan Project on Kickstarter
Mike Doyle, known for his decayed Victorian houses, launched a Kickstarter project to fund his next creation. For your support, Mike is offering framable prints of the finished creation along with actual brick-built details from the model.
Art Deco Batman
Bruce Lowell‘s art deco depiction of the Dark Knight is a beautifully composed artwork of the brick. If you like it, also check out the other art deco batman creation by Dave Kaleta.
Invert Island
Can you Believe that the first photo below is a color-inverted image? That’s because the actual creation is built out of an inverted color scheme! It’s one of the recent innovations by Siercon and Coral.
U2 “War” album art mosaic is more bricky, still angry
Joel Midgley (Greybrick) just posted a LEGO version of the cover art from U2’s 1983 album War.
This is a “studs up” rather than the usual “studs out” LEGO mosaic, which allows Joel to have finer control over diagonal angles in places like the lettering, as well as a samller “pixel” with the side of plates rather than their top.
The Vitruvian Minifig
LEGO community coordinator Kevin Hinkle is apparently also a talented artist. Inspired by Leonardo da Vinci’s 1487 drawing “Vitruvian Man” (itself inspired by earlier work by the architect Vitruvius), Kevin has drawn the idealized proportions of the LEGO minifigure.
I love how Kevin even signed the drawing from right to left.
Chinese landscape painting and jade seal
Ericmok from Hong Kong built a scene from Romance of the Three Kingdoms in the style of a Chinese painting, using monochrome shades to mimic the effect of a painting in black ink. The scroll background is a perfect way to frame the scene, making it very presentable.
His jade seal is also worthy of a mention, in which green and sand green are used to convey the texture of the jade. The characters on the seal say “Three Kingdoms.”
