About Caylin

A life-long LEGO fan, Caylin returned to the hobby as an adult in 2003, after her mother bought her a basic creator tub as a joke. Her mother regrets this. She regularly attends BrickCon in Seattle, Washington, where she goes by the title of Prize Goddess. You can check out her flickr account here.

So-called Arthur king and his silly English knnnnnnigits

The easy way to write this post would be to make references to a classic 1975 film directed by Mr. Gilliam and Mr. Jones. It would be in poor taste to write, for example, of how the subject of the below creation ignored the protests of his people (“Help! Help! I’m bein’ repressed!”) and how the feeble are disrespected and sent to an early grave.

It would be in further poor taste toss insults of elderberries and make demands for shrubbery. One that’s not too large.

So to avoid such unsavory comments, I will merely leave you with Mr. Tom Williamson‘s visual representation in poor taste of the above:

In all seriousness, these are pretty fabulous. If you’d like to see these in person, I have it on good authority that these will be live at BrickCon this year!

An oasis for the weary

What brings a traveler this far, you might ask? What a fabulous question. Wealth? Power? Prestige? In the long run it doesn’t matter, but a respite is always appreciated.

Though, knowing Sebastiaan Arts, I’m fairly sure there’s something hidden. A portal to another dimension, perhaps?

Recycling has a long, noble history...

…or something like that. Perhaps not necessarily noble, but the idea of re-purposing something certainly isn’t new.

Matthew Hurt‘s done an excellent job of illustrating just how enterprising some folks can be. His crumbling tower has become a hideout for two unsavory characters.

Sometimes you’re the monster; sometimes you’re the city.

Ever wonder what would happen if the cityscape turned on the monster sent to destroy it? Monster movies wouldn’t quite ever be the same.

Fortunately, we’ll probably not ever have to go through that kind of movie, and Chris McVeigh (powerpig) gives us a glimpse of what could have–might have–been.

Tread carefully in Michal Herbolt’s dwarf mine

I’m told that dwarves are a bit protective of the glittering gold that makes up their vast treasure. Michal Herbolt‘s recent creation, Defending the Mine, seems to prove just that.

I am in awe of the depth this creation seems to have; I fully expect it to go up, and up, as well as down and out and around.

I’m quite sure there’s a joke about land wars.

Though to be fair, I suppose someone of (reported) short stature and something to prove to his wife might consider Russia a relatively easy target.

Regardless, my impression from TheBrickAvenger‘s creation is that it was bloody, miserable, and cold and generally not a good day for Eylau.

Fabulous job.

Ridin’ the Big Thunder

I admit to being a sucker for Disney; I was 23 when I made my first trip. There’s a certain joy in seeing Mainstreet USA for the first time.

So with that in mind, this creation by Fat Tony brings me to that point, of being at Disney for the first time, and the sheer joy of riding the rides and seeing that magic.

To purge the evil forces from the land–LEGO style

I’m told purging a castle of evil is pretty hard work…but Alex (Sirens-Of-Titan) makes it look relatively easy. He brings a great presentation to the whole business. I particularly like the walls and their multi-hued texture.

Waitin’ for the 10:30 train departin’ here, headin’ for there....

Feel the heat on your skin? The dry, dry wind whistles past, and the hushed conversations of those on the platform drift your way. The horses keep quiet, and you just stand…wait…for the train to arrive, to take you out of this desolate place towards a new place, a new time, and perhaps a new beginning.

…awww, shucks. Look at what you made me do, Matija! I wrote a vignette. Not a good one, mind you, but still. That’s what your creation does, you see. It inspires.

Great West Railway Station

The details in this are so lovely and so numerous that I’ll let you spot them on your own.

Another fabulous find by Tommy!

Something with which to capture life–LEGO style

I appreciate a creation that looks like it’s truly made of brick, and has that feel of something created out of something else. Then there are creations that you have to do a double-take to make sure that yes, you really did just see that, and yes, it is in fact made of brick. Matt Armstrong (monsterbrick) and his antique Kodak camera made me do just that.

This just captures the look and feel of a classic, antique piece of photographic history. I expect it to function like a camera, and I expect the exposure to look fabulous and clear and in that old-timey sepia-tone.

Jaw dropping. Seriously. I just couldn’t pass it by.

Thanks, Tommy, for the heads up!

It’s what’s inside that counts...

I, for one, wouldn’t want to cross a mage, and certainly wouldn’t want to make fun of his house. Thomas Wunz has posted this lovely little medieval hut for his mage, and while it looks plain for someone of power, it’s a decidedly excellent build.

I’m particularly fond of the non-traditional, odd-shaped base. The building itself is just detailed and fun, with the brick-style tiles on the sides.

A LEGO ship on which to sail.

As you may or may not realize, I’m a total sucker for a pretty tall ship. I suppose it comes with the territory of being raised around boats. Combine LEGO, a pretty ship, and a fabulous display, and it just makes my heart soar.

Luke Hutchinson (Derfel Cadarn)has posted his creation, the Princess Ceinwyn, which happens to combine the three aforementioned things. This is a lovely three-masted ship, and the presentation and base complete the look.

Check out some of the other photos! The details are stunning!
