About Josh

Josh is 30+ years old and has more Lego than he has hair. Which really isn't saying much. He builds mostly medieval creations, but dabbles in other genres. He is also a father and uses his kids as an excuse to buy Lego. That justification isn't working as well as it used to, so if you can think of a better justification, feel free to contact him. Meanwhile, back at the ranch, Josh's Brickshelf gallery gets messier and messier. Josh also has a Flickr gallery, if you care about such things. He goes by the name "floodllama" there. If you wonder why he goes by "floodllama", you've obviously never owned a llama in flood. Josh feels sorry for you.

Josh Does NWBrickCon

After spending an incredible weekend at NWBrickCon this last weekend, I finally got my journal online.

You can read it here.

It was a ton of fun to see all the creations and meet so many Lego fans. Of course, the highlight of the weekend was finally getting to meet Andrew in real life. As I looked through my pics of the public hours, I had a bunch of Andrew so I give you the Dunechaser Montage!

Otto the Awesome

Armothe recently posted a knight that is quite possibly the best custom fig I have seen yet. I give you Otto the Crusader!

The plethora of custom details is astounding, from the great helm to the barding, from the banner to the horse, virtually every detail is perfect.

As a finishing touch, Armothe has even given Otto a custom hairdo:

What an awesome fig!

Micro Techniques Extraordinaire

Classic-Castle.com recently posted a great presentation by Ed Kohl. The depth of the information is incredible. I have never seen techniques like this before. If you have any interest is building in other scales at all, you should check this out.

Definitely worth a peek!

Gandalf Decapitated

Mogenson has posted a very detailed head of Gandalf the White Hut on Brickshelf. It’s pretty nifty if you ask me. I love the expression.

Viking Hut by BentCreations

Bentcreations has posted a sweet Viking Hut on Brickshelf. It uses the viking warrior and wolf from set #7015. The landscaping is especially well done.

The Dragon Attacks!

Well, I’m finally back and with a rather unusual creation too! It isn’t often that you find really cool things built out of Duplo but this is an exception. For those of you who don’t already know, Duplo is the version of Lego made for the younger generation and this castle is simply incredible…

I give you, the Duplo Castle:

Besides being very well built and really, really big, this scene boasts some fun details too. Here is the dragon, having lept atop the wall, as he prepares to burn the vegetable booth:

In this picture, the valiant defenders attempt to quench the flames:

Smurfy!

This builder, appropriately named Smurf, has built a cool Smurf bust:

Definitely a cool smurf, but an interesting point of this creation is that its made almost entirely out of bricks. There are a few plates involved, but by an large its all bricks. Overall, a great job achieving “roundness” with only bricks. Smurfy!

Must be a day of planes...

Mikepsiaki has built a cute little biplane that I couldn’t pass up:

While the construction of this plane is deceptively simple, the beauty of it really jumps out at you. Using mostly basic bricks, the builder has really captured a neat plane. He says it isn’t based on any real plane, but it is a perfect example of the genre. Slightly cartoony, really cute, and just a little bit burly…overall a sweet little plane.

Bombs Away!

JunLego has posted a very cool B-29 Bomber:

The details on this creation are quite good. The subtle shaping of the fuselage, the functional bomb bays, the rear gun, etc. Its a great piece of eye-candy. It never would have occured to me to use the tie fighter cockpit for this plane, and it works perfectly! Lovely, lovely plane!

An incident waiting to happen...

Jacob C., a member of Classic-Castle, has posted an incredible bridge:

This bridge blew me away. First, the size of it. Its huge! But what really makes it great is the level of architectural detail. Incredible! Hopefully those two guards facing off on the bridge are pretty laid back…this could get nasty!

Invasion of the yellow bots!

Legoloverman has built some sweet little yellow Bots:

Aside from being awesomely yellow, these bots show off some really cool building techniques. While making these bots extremely posable, the builder avoided using virtually any hinge type pieces! There is also a plethora of unusual pieces used as hands, guns, tools, etc. Look closely at some of the techniques used on these lovely little things and you will be amazed!
