Fallout boys create Panic! at the vault door

Fallout wrapped its first season on TV, and a Fallout 5 game is still years off, but the post-apocalyptic world of Vault Dwellers and Nuka Cola lives on thanks to fans like Cube Brick who spent 8 months bringing the beloved universe to life in LEGO. The scene depicts a Raider camp built on the doorstep of Vault 27 in the Mojave Wasteland from wood scraps and rusty refuse. Cube Brick’s diorama is packed to the ghouls with incredible details lifted from recent games, while also sporting some innovative techniques to bring the wasteland to life.

Here we get a closer look at the Raider Overboss, looking fierce in his Ninjago bone armor as he lords over his gang. The Overboss’ greatest prize, power armor salvaged from the Brotherhood of Steel, is an amazing sub-build, mixing roller skates, handcuffs, wolverine claws, and other tiny metal bits. I’m also impressed by the flaming barrels made from droid arms clutching wheel rims.

The perimeter walls might look like they’re barely holding together but the NPU is strong. Here the curved roof is achieved by connecting tiles and slide shoes through a net. Cube Brick cleverly modifies a red motorcycle with a pair of power lifter accessories from the M-Tron collectible minifigure. One of several teddy bears (A Fallout tradition) keeps the dugout cozy. And in a special joke just for LEGO fans, brittle brown brick fragments can be found around the camp.

As much detail as the Vault exterior packs in, Cube Brick’s display holds even more surprises when you turn it around. A would-be heroic Vault Dweller bids his subterranean home goodbye as a Mr. Handy looks on.  Can we take a moment to appreciate the vault door itself, made of 18 panels that slide into place around the central gear?

There are many more details that worth checking out which you can appreciate on Cube Brick’s photostream, or to see it with builder commentary, take a video tour.

Cube Brick promises to return to building in the Fallout world in the future, in time for Season 2 of the hit show, but after 8 months among these wasteland crazies, he deserves a break!
