This monochrome creation by Adam Dodge (Dodge on Flickr) really jumped out at me. Something about the single color makes you really dig into it for the details. I’m finding it fascinating. I may have to go build something monochrome just get it out of my system.

“Well, I can drive that loader.”
Aliens meets Bionicle in the latest cool creation by Kyle Peckham called Cervatus and his Power Loader. Built for the annual Bio Cup competition on MOCpages, the exosuit is designed to accommodate a 10 inch tall Bionicle figure while being fully poseable and removable from the character itself. The competition is bringing out the best of the Bionicle tribe, so check out the other entries if you have the time an inclination.
Chasovoy is watching you.
It is time to put on your digital bib, constant reader, and feast upon the latest LDD build from Brickviller. Like most virtual models, I can’t get past my long standing prejudice of immediately wondering how it would look in “real” bricks, but hopefully the builder won’t hold that against me. The design is remarkable and to my admittedly untrained eyes, very Russian.
“I have been a stranger in a strange land.”
Presenting the Exodus, a colony ship by TBB first-timer Tim Clark (Tim C76). A SHIP (Seriously Huge Investment In Parts) is a milestone accomplishment for any serious sci-fi builder, but mere length is not enough to grace the ivy covered halls of The Brothers Brick. Fortunately Tim has created an interstellar behemoth that fits the nerdy and somewhat arbitrary specifications of the genre and looks great too. The Exodus has all the boilerplate features you’ve come to expect from a starship: powerful engines, pointy antenna cluster and non specific pieces of technology so often called “greebles“. As if our hobby isn’t dorky enough, we embrace words like “greebles“. Yes I realize the word existed before the hobby but it doesn’t make it any more acceptable. As a “spacer” I feel confident bashing my own kind. Back to the Exodus…it even has the final requirement for all great SHIPs; some celestial eye-candy in the background. Welcome to the SHIPwrights club, Tim.
Ghostbird
F@bz makes is fourth appearance of 2013 with a skinny spacecraft he calls Ghostbird. There is a great deal to like about this model: the color scheme, variety of textures and greebles. My favorite detail is the length of string that runs along the top of the ship. For a guy who’s been building for a relatively short period of time, F@bz has made an indelible mark on the sci-fi genre.
A striking frigate
Chris (Ironspniper) says his latest model is a microscale space frigate, but I think it could work just as well as a fig-scale drone or fighter.
That’s one of the odd things about LEGO models not built to resemble something “real” — it’s really up to the builder to decide what scale it’s in. I’ve built spacecraft myself that I only decided were microscale after I’d finished them and taken the pictures.
Regardless, the great color choices and contrast between angular and circular shapes make for one excellent LEGO model.
The lovely asymettry of the Azuki Shipyards Myrmidon-class missile boat
John Stephens (-=Steebles=-) says of his missile boat that it’s “designed to deliver endless salvos of medium and long range missiles.” While the loadout is certainly formidable, I’m most impressed by the radical asymmetry of the craft, with the cockpit offset from the center-line, balanced by the sensor array and two very different wings. Nevertheless, the forward projections and wingtips on both wings tie it all together very nicely.
Run to the hills!
Run for your lives!….lisqr has sent an “alien crawler” war machine to destroy your favorite planet. When I first saw the model I thought it was from our own beloved Brother-Zhang, but the lack of pseudo-poetic gobbledegook gave it away.
This diorama is so metal!
Hammerhead Sky Fortress
Inspired by the collected works of TBB favorite Mike Yoder and the Avengers Helicarrier, Lego Admiral has constructed an interesting war machine he calls the “Emperor’s Victory“. Even though the model was constructed with the Warhammer 40k universe in mind, I can’t help but wish the builder had included a photo of minifig Iron Man pushing one of the blades around inside an engine.
Friday Night Fights (Round 12)
Welcome back fight fans, to Sin City Nevada for another skull cracking edition of Friday Night Fights! Tonight’s middleweight bout features two veteran fighters in the prime of their building careers. Let’s go to the tale of the tape:
Fighting out of the red corner, the Bordeaux Bruiser…Eric Druon (Baronsat) and his “NAVETTE ULYSSE 31“.
And fighting out of the blue corner, from Nazareth Belgium….BeLgIuM ww2 bUiLdeR and his “sdkfz“.
As usual, constant reader, you are tasked with deciding the outcome of this pugilistic endeavor by way of comment. On the last edition of Friday Night Fights The Suboken Project gave his opponent a savage beating to the tune of a 9-0 victory, causing many in the fight community to wonder if the matchmaker has lost his wits. Only time will tell, tune in next week for more action!
Steampunk! In Space!
captainsmog has knocked one out of the park with this build. I love the details, the color choices, the asteroids, the derelict and the presentation. Well played!
You really need to see this in a larger size in order to appreciate the details…
CNES Jupiter Control Room
Damien Labrousse (AKA Legodrome just posted pictures of a piece he built for CNES, the French Space Agency. Two control rooms were built for display and include a working screen and sound system. I just love the clean lines of this build but my favorite detail has to be those adorable little rocket models next to the speaker. Awesome!
