Making magic with mind-bending custom minfigs [Minifig Monday]

Last week’s grab bag installment of Minifig Monday was a lot of fun, but today we return to themed roundups. Specifically, we’re looking at wizards and warlocks and their sorcerous kindred – but the real magic is in the creative use of parts to push the boundaries of minifig creation!

We start this magical Monday collection with a character who is barely a wizard at all – Rincewind from the Discworld novels. As created by legendary minifig photographer Jez Rider, Rincewind is accompanied by The Luggage and a definitely-not-stolen sheep.

Custom minifigs represent! This incredible Wicked duo from LEGO Masters winner Ian Summers (bricktacular_builds) is currently in the LEGO House Masterpiece Gallery, and might be the smallest build to get that honor. The parts usage is mind-blowing, especially the backwards arms, Glinda’s teapot body, and a beard for Elphaba’s broom. I had the chance to speak with Ian at LEGO House and he’s a fan of Minifig Monday and the creations shared here.

Backwards arms? Redbirch ups the ante with legs for arms! The builder has only shared 11 MOCs so far, but they’ve already made Minifig Monday twice with some of the most innovative parts usage we’ve seen. Look at those extended legs, made by slotting a minifig hand into the leg hole. The handlebar shoulder armor is great too.

Let’s crash the castle with these mighty LEGO minifigs and their custom gear [Minifig Monday]

For minifig fans, there are few themes as enduring as the medieval knight. Classic castle themes brought the age of chivalry to LEGO back in 1978, and the factions introduced since then continue to grow to this day (you can even invent your own, like the chicken knights, with the Minifigure Factory). Today we’re taking another look at knights with a special focus on customized weapons and armor made from 100% LEGO parts.

Many minifig creators these days are inspired by the dark gothic settings of FromSoftware’s games. Natashia (motherofcatdragons) pays tribute to Elden Ring’s Night’s Cavalry, armed with a perfect flail.

Sandman_BrickStudio is a new face on the custom minifig scene but already creating some incredible characters. This helmet crest technique is brilliant, as is the truly epic two-handed sword design.

Red Impala repurposes a fencing helmet to equip this holy crusader. The ayers of cloth on the armor are so clean and effective. It would be a pity if this knight got blood on them.

From the Caribbean to the Grand Line, these fantastic LEGO pirates are ready to plunder [Minifig Monday]

2025 is turning out to be the best year for LEGO pirates since Barracuda Bay opened for business. Fun One Piece playsets, a gorgeous new Black Pearl, collectible minifigs, and let’s not forget that One-Eyed Willy’s pirate ship is currently in design. September is also a big month for pirate minifigs with two contests running that fans of Minifig Monday will want to take note of, including one that The Brothers Brick is sponsoring. But first, let’s have a look at some amazing pirate-themed minifig creations that have come on our radar lately, as well as a few classic creations.

This week’s cover image comes courtesy of Garret (2p_figs), who created the post-apocalyptic pirate crew above with some inspiration from Waterworld. Garret also created this cursed clown pirate that incorporates some incredible parts usage at minifig scale. The Illithid head from D&D is perfectly employed as an octopus, and the pony tail looks great as a sash.

Get ready to showdown with these LEGO samurai, ninja, and cyber-ronin [Minifig Monday]

When LEGO moved the Castle theme from Europe to Japan in 1998 with sets like Flying Ninja Fortress (one of my top 5 all time favorite sets!), the theme brought with it a slew of new minifig elements, like katanas, golden antlers, and samurai armor. In the years since, Ninjago has tapped Asian history and pop culture for even more accessories from Edo era and beyond. This week we bring you a roundup of custom samurai-inspired figs showcasing parts old and new.

Michał Dziadosz gets us started with Master Hirotaka…

Michał’s fig was a collaboration with Expansion Bricks, who presents the kensei, literally “sword saint,” an honorary title for master swordsmen and followers of bushido. Note the fig’s wide stance, a technique borrowed from 2p_figs for giving a minifig a more imposing presence.

Marvel at this Legion of Extraordinary Superhero Minfigs [Minifig Monday]

Summer movie season is coming to an end, having reinvigorated the superhero genre with great entries for both Marvel and DC. While it will be some time before the next super-powered crossover hits screens, the genre is still popping in the LEGO minifig community. Today on Minifig Monday, we bring you a mix of headlining heroes and deep cut villains from a legion of incredible LEGO fig fans. Be sure to add the creators to your pull list and give them a like. Now, dear readers, without further ado – Excelsior!

When it comes to adapting Marvel for the screen, 2024’s X-Men ’97 is as good as it gets. LEGO’s X-Mansion introduced a few more mutants to minifig form, with some big omissions. Boderson Bricks steps up with Xavier’s gifted team of mutants, bringing Jubilee and Morph into the fold.

Boderson also recreates the larger supporting cast of allies and villains, most of whom never appeared in LEGO, using official LEGO parts. Mr. Sinister and Emma Frost are especially nice.

Beyond the spider-verse – these creepy fantasy minifigs and creature builds will catch you in their web [Minifig Monday]

LEGO will soon be venturing into the Marvel Spider-verse for the next line of Collectible Minifigs, but you don’t need to wait until August to find weird and wonderful fig creations of the arachnid (and arachnid adjacent) variety. Today on Minifig Monday we’re catching a bevy of bug and spider flavored figs and mini builds in our web!

Kicking off this week’s lineup is The Seamstress by Brennan (brickbot_studio). Animation fans might recognize this wicked weaver from the film the post-apoc “stitch-punk” film 9. Brennan has made some incredible mini character builds but this might be my favorite thing he’s ever shared. Excellent use of the Samukai minifig head from Ninjago.

Keeping to the spinstress theme, we have the Song Weaver by Aris (bricks.for_bricks). This arachnid character brings an aristocratic air to the spider theme, with One Ring bangles and an impressive headress mixing cloth, plastic feathers, and rubber bands.

Eight limbs? Ha! This Friendly centipede from Dicken Liu has arms to spare! Who would have guessed that minidoll toros make such grotesquely perfect bug segments? I haven’t been able to unsee this amazing creation since Dicken shared it a few months back, and if it’s new to you, you’re welcome.

Minifig Monday: These golden K-Pop Demon Hunter LEGO creations are sweet as soda pop [Feature]

The surprise hit of the summer, with its eye-catching animation and a soundtrack of earworms, is K-Pop Demon Hunters from Netflix and Sony Animation. It has a LEGO connection, as the film’s creator, Maggie Kang, was also head of story for the Ninjago movie. This week on Minifig Monday we round up some creative LEGO takes on the demon-slaying pop idols of Huntr/x and their rivals, the Saja Boys, along with instructions to build your own adorable Derpy the Tiger.

Markus (@Bricks of Maze) gets us started with half-demon Rumi with a minifig-scale build of Derpy. The shadow raven from Elves makes a fitting appearance in the hat that it stole from Derpy.

Natashia (@_motherofcatdragons_) mashes up the idol band with Star Wars for a Jedi take on Huntr/x.

In this reimagined universe, Huntr/x walks the path of the Jedi — seekers of balance, guided by the Force yet never losing the edge that defines the hunt. With lightsabers in hand and instincts sharper than any blade, this is what it looks like when rhythm meets destiny in a galaxy far, far away.

It’s no wonder they’re climbing up the galactic pop charts. Watch out, Sy Snoodles!

Bounty Hunters, Troopers, and Droids – oh my! [Minifig Monday]

Wookiepedia catalogues thousands of characters from a galaxy far, far away, and yet the richness of Star Wars leaves ample space for anyone to imagine their own swarthy scoundrel, sinister Sith, or back-stabbing bounty hunter to roam the Outer Rim. This week on Minifig Monday we round up some recent builds from the custom minifig community that’ll have your lips buzzing with lightsaber hums and binary beeps.

brickmedude invented a trio of mercenaries called the Saber Hunters who hunt Jedi and Sith alike. This ghostly merc evokes General Grievous by way of the Sisters from Kubo and the Two Strings. brickmedude is always an amazing photographer, but especially adept at post-production on light sabers.

When bam.bricks_customs goes Star Wars, he goes hard. This Nikto bounty hunter showcases incredible handling of cloth, with layers of fabric skirt and capes paired with a molded scarf and satchel. He looks like a Hasbro Black Series action figure in miniature. The reprogrammed Battle Droid has the makings of the perfect SW sidekick. Batter up, roger, roger.

Custom Minifig creations with Hollywood LEGO hero stuntmanbrick [Guest Feature]

Hi there! I’m Aidan, you may know me as @stuntmanbrick on Instagram, and I’m fortunate enough to be TBB’s guest writer today. A little about myself – I’m a screenwriter based in Los Angeles and I just graduated from USC with a master’s degree in writing. I write mostly family/adventure/sci-fi-type features, and I say all this because film is one of my two passions – the other, of course, being LEGO.

A lifelong fan of the plastic, I’ve been running my LEGO Instagram page for about six and a half years now, accruing over twenty-thousand followers in that time. My work mostly focuses on recreating pre-existing characters from movies and television, whether it’s 1902’s A Trip to the Moon, this year’s Sinners, or anything in between. A day of knights from LEGO stars [Minifig Monday]

Where I live in Sweden, we’re in that time of year when day never ends, which has me craving ~~night~~ Knights! For this week’s Minifig Monday, we’re rounding up enough white knights, royal champions, and bullish bruisers to surround a round table, and a strong dose of NEXO Knights!

We start with Sir Candrel, the Luminous Flameknight, from Linus (minifigurebuilds). He may equip NEXO pauldrons and shield, but this knight works with wax, not wires. I love the use of Shakespeare’s neck frill atop the helmet and the fur collar on the axe for dripping wax detail.

Sobek Bricks is back with Calanthia the Dragon Slayer, a half-elf knight with flower maidens to hold up her flowing cape. I don’t know what I like better about Calanthia’s combo – the curved horns on the helmet, or the winged goat by her side.

Netbrix and chill with these LEGO TV tributes [Minifig Monday]

Ah, LEGO – the building toy that lets you explore deep space, medieval castles, and… the set of Seinfeld. From Stranger Things to Queer Eye, LEGO has made comfort viewing a staple of its catalogue. Since LEGO’s current product offerings are a bit light on adult TV fare (unless you count Bluey) we’re dedicating this week’s Minifig Monday to stars of the small screen

Kimberly Faul takes us back to Staten Island where What We Do in the Shadows was faithfully recorded for 6 seasons. Sadly the camera crew is gone, but we can get some satisfaction knowing that Nandor and crew are still tending to hedges. Kim does a great job of capturing the cast in minifig form, staged in their lovingly decrepit home (plus a few bonus cats, courtesy the builder!).

For a post-apoc minifig challenge on Instagram, Expansion Bricks revisits three of the stars of The Walking Dead, the franchise that refuses to die, in this update of one of the builder’s earliest minifig tributes. Figs aside, I love those trees made from stacked stud-shooting blasters.

Dark Lords and Durasteel – Sith happens [Minifig Monday]

The LEGO minifig scene on Instagram is a welcoming place with creative collaborations, friendly crossovers, and a supportive community… all virtues sneered upon by the subject of this week’s Minifig Monday. Today we’re spotlighting Dark Lords of the Sith dreamed up by some of our favorite builders. The prompt for these builds came from the #swminifigtournament started by burbricks. Which wicked fig is your favorite?

Our first Sith comes courtesy of Expansion Bricks. Per the builder, “Darth Taz is an ancient Utapauan sith from the Old Republic era, long before the rule of two. Taz fought in the Sith Civil Wars as a revered warrior and tactician.” The robotic arm and collection of trophies are incredible, but my favorite detail is definitely the use of the minifig ladybug wings as a collar around Taz’ head.

From kappa_o407, we have Darth Enophis, a highly unusual Mon Calamari Sith. Per Kappa, “He was best known for his ability to create Force Storms, an ability that allowed him to tear the fabric of space and create hyperspace tunnels, a power that allowed him not only to travel, but also gave him the ability to destroy entire planets due to the instability of the tears.” His storm powers were also ideal for laying traps.
