BrickFest 2007 Highlights from Andrew

BrickFest 2007 wrapped up on Sunday, but I’ve been so busy I haven’t had a chance to sit down and reflect. Well, here goes.

Highlights for me:

Phew. That was all so fun I’m now miserably sick. :-D

Still, I can’t wait for the next major LEGO event I’ll be attending, NWBrickCon. See you all there! (You can read more about what NWBrickCon was like last year right here on The Brothers Brick.)

LEGO MINDSTORMS Vending Machine by Ricardo T.

I’ve seen lots of cool creations on the various LEGO MINDSTORMS NXT blogs I read, but none of them compares to this working vending machine built by Ricardo T.

A few of my favorite features:

  • Working coin detector that returns correct change.
  • Five-key keyboard that supports input to order 57 different items.
  • Password-protected coin drawer.
  • Fanta! :D

Smile! You’re on Candid Mindstorms Camera!

Check out these two funny videos of the new Mindstorms NXT robots. Thanks to LEGO Ambassador Nelson Yrizarry for pointing them out.

EDIT (AB): Okay, the auto-play is just too annoying. (Sorry LEGO, choose a different video hosting service next time.) I’m swapping the videos for a link to the page where you can watch both of them. Both hilarious, by the way.

LEGO Mindstorms Lie Detector

Via Boing Boing, a Mindstorms lie detector by Michael Gasperi:

Wow. You won’t see very many Mindstorms creations here on DB, so if you’re interested in LEGO robotics, be sure to check out The NXT STEP and the nxtbot.com Blog. (Side note: The latter is sponsored by LEGO. Hmmm… How do I pick up sponsorship from LEGO? They could even pay me in bricks…)
