We all love a good LEGO Gundam or Macross mecha, but LEGO builders everywhere are also creating excellent models of their own designs. Have a look at them here.

This mecha has two speeds: Walk and Kill

Pansymecha needs a Death Walker chaser.

Very awesome, Shawn Snyder.

Pansymecha makes fanboy mecha swoon

I enjoy seeing genres and bandwagons being approached with a sort of irreverent creativity, so it was great to see this OTOMech Model TK-MM, built by Dave Sterling (half of ToT-LUG) for the 2009 MOClympics. It was inspired by the Otomen manga series and brainstorming with other LEGO fans, which is a great way to get silly ideas.

Tot-LUG Pansymecha

My favorite features are the kitty greebles and the simple fact that the cockpit fits a Fabuland figure, but there’s a lot of other stuff to love.

The sweetest thing

LEGO iito v27 by Fredoichi

When I get a robot I want it to be as cute as this one by Fredoichi. But I guess it doesn’t want to leave Yokohama.

Brickshelf Find: Scouzy

Brickshelf user Scouzy has some great science fiction creations online. They’re worth checking out. I think this motorcycle is the most recent, but my favorite is this mecha.

Thanks to Bill (Kidthor) for the tip.

4 hardsuits to protect your skin in times of crisis

Tim Zarki (Spook) gets things going with our mini-roundup today. His most recent pair of hardsuits are certainly excellent, but I particularly love the presentation on the “GOLEM Strikesuit” on the right.

Kevin Blocksidge (Kevoh) suspects that the shine may be wearing off District 9, but nevertheless built an accurate minifig-scale Praun biosuit, with Wikus Van De Merwe for scale.

Finally, Monkfish44 created “a spindly tin-can that swims.”

Samurai mecha slices off heads with honor

The latest creation from Moko is dressed in samurai mecha armor and wields twin energy katanas. That’s enough to spell awesome, but there are some worthwhile details to note such as the use of tiered tiles and cheese slopes to imitate the jagged samurai armor. And as with pictures involving chrome radar dishes, you get a bonus image of the photographer.

Alive in JoBerg biosuit by Lemon_Boy

As twee affect rightly notes, we’re going to be seeing a lot of LEGO creations inspired by District 9 over the coming weeks. Some truly crappy, others rather awesome, like this biosuit by Erik (Lemon_Boy).

LEGO Alive in JoBerg District 9 biosuit

This is actually based on the suits from “Alive in JoBerg” — the short film writer/director Neill Blomkamp expanded into the feature-length District 9. Thanks to the magic of YouTube, you can watch “Alive in JoBerg” without leaving TBB:

Quadrupedal Armored Core mecha by Kyle Vrieze

LEGO armored core mecha

It’s always nice to see something other than the standard bipedal mecha, like this great four-legged stomper by Kyle Vrieze (bermudafreze). Beyond the non-standard leg configuration, Kyle’s mecha has very cool feet and shoulders.

Sartorius will tailor your clothes and then run away with your womenfolk

LEGO Bionicle Sartorius

Cameron (Primus) draws inspiration from Greek and Roman mythology for his latest Bionicle creation.

Mark forms the chest and the head

As well as all the other parts of Voltron. I always loved Voltron when I was a kid, and Mark Sandlin‘s rendition using a TeknoMeka frame is a fantastic representation. This model looks great, even if the show hasn’t stood up to the test of time.

And yes, this Voltron does divide up into the individual lions.

RSG Mecha

Sometimes, we’re all about a great creation here, regardless of photography, lighting or scenery. Sometimes, it’s the presentation that counts. Check out this backlit diorama that Kidthor just posted over on flickr.

The mecha itself has some great design details too (like the shoulders), so make sure to check it out solo.

Now for something completely different...and bigger

This hardsuit by Ceramite is really big, but that head cracks me up! Who would have known that the saltshaker head would be so useful? ;)

Many thanks to Joe for the “heads” up!
