Honshū Rice Terrace

Disco86 has built a unique bit of medieval history here. This scene depicts how the Japanse began to build rice terraces on the northern mountains of Honshū in order to cultivate rice there. The build is very striking. I can set aside my normal disgust for borders on this one because the flowing lines of the terraces are nicely accentuated by the rigidness of the border. The brightness of the blue also contrasts nicely with the black of the border and is complemented by the green vegetation. All that makes for a build that is really nice to look at.

Two Heads are Double the Trouble

The old saying says that “Two heads are better than one”. I don’t think that is the case with this Ettin by Letranger Absurde. I think two head make for more trouble than one when it comes to giants, at least in my personal experience. Yours may be different. I really like how the two heads have different looks and personalities though. Very nice touch. This two-headed Ugly was built for the Mixels D&D contest. Get your out googly eyes and build some beasties!

Black Hollow

César Soares is the mastermind behind this lovely medieval village. I really like how each of the houses is distinct but fit together so well. Also, while I normally don’t like borders, it actually works really well her, as it highlights the absence of straight lines elsewhere in the build. I like it. I really do.

Torgrar the Clobberer

I like this guy. My family comes from the same general vicinity and I’m sure my ancestors were much like him. Well, probably more like the boneheaded companions mentioned in the description, but I digress. The Deathly Halliwell did a great job sculpting this figure. Naturally the torso stands out, but I also really like the face. The use of dark tan for the beard makes for a nice subtle effect and the dumbfounded look on his face is priceless!

Enter the Armory

You all know I’m a sucker for a good medieval scene. Well, this is a really good one. We don’t often see interior shots quite like this. Mark Erickson has knocked this one out of the park. I love the rows of weapons, the various stands and displays, as well as the overall architecture of the place. Overall, it’s a really nice build.

Diplomacy in the Dark

This dark scene by Disco86 lit up my day. Besides being a well-thought and nicely posed scene, the lighting and editing of the picture are top-notch. The elves look like they aren’t sure what to make of each other and the lighting really gives it a creepy, other-worldly air.

Review of GI Bricks Exclusive Crate Packs featuring BrickArms and Brick Mercenaries

I just picked up a Claymore Crate from GI Bricks to review and Julie sent me the other two packs as well. All of these packs come with a BrickArms crate with special printing and four BrickArms weapons painted by Brick Mercenaries. They are available exclusively from GI Bricks.

The Bloodshed Crate

This pack comes in a brown BrickArms crate with a splash of red blood printed on one side. The printing is very nicely done, as we have come to expect from BrickArms. The crate itself would actually be quite useful in a battle scene, perhaps with a slain minifig leaning against it. The pack includes a Claymore, Damien Blade, Havoc Blade and Killstrike Saber. What makes these weapons really special is the paint job by Josh Baum of Brick Mercenaries. The paint looks professionally done and he was able to recreate an accurate representation of blood-soaked weapons, rather than randomly applying red paint, as is so often done. The paint also feels very durable. On the GI Bricks website, it says that these are for display purposes only, but I think they would stand up to light play. They will get scratched up if left in a bin with other weapons, but normal handling isn’t going to affect them.

Knife-throwing 101

RoR Thieves Guild Overall

Ryan Hauge, of BrickWarriors, just posted this fun little scene of an assassin training their apprentice. The timbered roof is cool and the crazy green flames in the fire make me smile, but the archways over the doors and fireplace really make this standout. I also have to mention that four-poster bed. The finials on the bedposts? BrickWarriors’ Magic Wands. Nice touch.

Ryan told me that this is a scene from his new book, now available on Amazon, also called “Riddle of Regicide (Pentavia Book 1)“.

Totally Floored

Henry F. (AKA Dubbadgrim) has risen from the dead and created this hilarious little scene. I love the effect of the creature bursting through the floor! It’s really extremely well-done.

A Shady Deal

(Goh 9) A Shady Deal

Vitreolum has some shenanigans going on in the shade of this wonderful, Middle-Eastern inspired fortress. I especially like the use of plate hinges to texture the walls and using orc swords to replicate the hinges on the door is brilliant. I also have to comment on his fig posing. Without those three figs, this build would be nice but dead. The simple placement of the guard looking over shoulder and the “traders” on the ground below really makes this come alive.
