An incident waiting to happen...

Jacob C., a member of Classic-Castle, has posted an incredible bridge:

This bridge blew me away. First, the size of it. Its huge! But what really makes it great is the level of architectural detail. Incredible! Hopefully those two guards facing off on the bridge are pretty laid back…this could get nasty!

Here’s the big bridge gallery

Chad Ivany Catches a Leprechaun

Thank goodness for Vignette Bricks! I totally missed this awesome leprechaun in a vignette by Chad Ivany (aka Cyin/CAI):

Lukas’ Castley Minifigs

It’s always a pleasure to see someone get into minifig building, and Lukas W.P. has made a lot of these little dudes lately. Hurray!

Here’s his latest batch, a “Hammer Dude,” “Rascal,” “Knife Dude,” and “Gypsy”:

Micah Berger’s Fantasy Creatures

For some reason, I don’t seem to have ever blogged Micah Berger’s great brick-built fantasy creatures. With an update to his gallery and a tip from another Andrew, this is a good an opportunity as any (some of these will be new, some not). ;-)

Here’s a minotaur and an “Ibixian”:

A hag:

A “Wood-Nelf” (look at all those minifig hands!!!):

And my favorite of the bunch — Puddleglum the marshwiggle (from C.S. Lewis’ The Silver Chair):

There are more great creatures (real and fantastic) than I can present in one blog post, so be sure to check out Micah’s Animals gallery on Brickshelf.

Brody’s Col du Mont Tower

Many LEGO fans go through a period called a “dark age” or “the dark ages” during which we don’t buy LEGO or build anymore. Although I continued building at home during high school and college, I didn’t buy a whole lot of LEGO between 1989 and 1997. Many LEGO fans credit the Star Wars line (released in 1999) for bringing them out of their dark ages, but I joke that I had a second dark age of my own between 1999 and 2004. I feel like I wasted those five years building nothing but Star Wars creations, missing out on all the other great sets LEGO released. But enough about me.

Bruce noticed this wonderful castle from new Brickshelf user Brody — “Col Du Mont Tower”:

Bruce posted his find in this thread on Classic-Castle Forums, drawing Brody out of lurker mode, explaining that he has just came out of his dark ages. It’s amazing to see this kind of creation from a “new” builder. Be sure to click the image above and check out the full gallery to see all the great details in Brody’s castle.

Ken Takeuchi’s LEGO Works

I’ve been subscribed to Japanese builder Ken Takeuchi’s blog for some time. (Ken goes by “Ken-Tucky” online.) However, it wasn’t until Soren Roberts mentioned Ken’s creations as a source of inspiration for his recent “Heavy Missile Cruiser” (Blocklog post) that I took the time to explore Ken’s Web site, LEGO Works.

Since 1998, Ken has been posting fantastic LEGO creations. (And it’s interesting to see his building style evolve over the last eight years — integrating newly available parts and new building techniques.) With an English version of his LEGO pages, exploring his site is well worth your time. To whet your appetite, I’d like to introduce a few of my personal favorites.

One of dozens of micro-scale vehicles in his “L.E.G.O Force,” here’s an awesome “Armed Starfighter Carrier”:

Demonstrating that Ken’s not just a Spacer, here’s the bathouse building from Hayao Miyazaki’s Spirited Away:

A whole fleet of micro-scale World War II planes:

A camel Ken built while participating in the LEGO King Championship TV show:

Island Tower

Weasel47 has posted a great Tower on Brickshelf:

This is great example of a fantasy castle. The rocks, caves, and beach are exceptional and the whole tower is modular, allowing easy access to the inside. Overall, a wonderful creation!

Ninjas 4Evah!

I sure hope we never see the end of ninja LEGO creations. Here’s Nelson Yrizarry’s “Ninja Training Camp.” Natually, it’s totally sweet, with a secret entrance, lookout holes, and everything else a ninja clan needs to get ready for their next mission.

Be sure to check out all the pictures in the Brickshelf gallery, which includes lots of action shots of ninjas training:

Of Monks and Treasure Guards

Hurray! marakoeschtra has added two more castle characters — an “illuminator” and two “treasure guards”:

Minifig Tom Cruise

Those of you looking for a LEGO Katie Holmes might be disappointed, but Brickshelf user Jimmy Lai has posted a cool minifig version of Tom Cruise in The Last Samurai:

And check out Jimmy’s awesome movie poster:

Marcin Kitala’s Mountain Pass

The little archaeologist who lives in my brain loves ruins. He did a little happy dance when I laid eyes on this beautiful diorama by Marcin Kitala (k1089 on Brickshelf):

Of Gold Carriers and Bush Robbers

It’s been a while, but marakoeschtra has updated his castle characters with a pair of “gold carriers” and a “bush robber”:
