Flickr user and Classic-Castle member 2 Much Caffeine has posted another entry for the CCCVII—Castle of Illusion.
The set includes a photo detailing how he achieved the optical illusion without using a photo editing program. I am impressed with the amount of thought that went in not only to building this, but photographing and presenting it!
Francesco Tavella (Tavernellos) posted this great windmill a couple weeks ago and I’m finally getting around to it. He provides plenty of detailed shots and a video so you can check out more of its features, including the moving functions. Good stuff.
Dylan B. posted this great temple a few days ago and I’m finally getting around to it. I especially like the stones around the pond, thought that’s not the only cool feature by any means.
On one hand, it’s difficult to continue being surprised at the brilliant LEGO creations that Kris Kelvin churns out with alarming regularity. On the other hand, we can rely on a steady stream of cool stuff to enjoy every month or two, like “Castle of the Order of the Black Falcons”.
busboy489 has produced another fantastic entry for Classic-Castle‘s annual contest. I particularly like the gentle curve of the walk-way between the two towers over the water. It’s quite elegant.
qworg presents “Pegasus’ Fortress,” a small castle on a very tall spire of rock.
Notice the town, docks, and even clouds far below the castle. The combination of minifig scale and microscale create a forced-perspective effect that takes this from cool to awesome.
Barney Main (SlyOwl) is known for his action-packed, medium-sized castle dioramas. His newest creation depicts the dissolution of a monastery 1536 under Henry VIII. There are lots of details and techniques to soak in, including the roof, the window designs, and the chandeliers and altar in the interior.
I know I’m a pathetic sucker for any creations based on Terry Pratchett’s Discworld, but it’s impossible to resist another of Sylvain’s (captainsmog) dioramas. Aside from the tie-in with my favorite author, this uses a variety of both sophisticated and simple techniques to create a detail rich scene. Plus, it has a wizard’s bad ass (not a town near Lancre) wheelchair almost running over a watchman.
Windle Poons isn’t my favorite character, but this is just a good all around medieval city scene. I especially like the weeds growing through the textured cobbles, the drain pipe on the left, and the wooden roof.
Rod Gillies (2 Much Caffeine) applies his skills to medieval Japan with his latest creation, “The General is summoned to war”.
The stone wall has a great texture, and the green roof isn’t something you see that often in LEGO samurai/ninja creations (though they certainly exist in real life). My favorite detail is the fountain.

I really like the arches for the ceiling–they really give a sense of space for me, making the room look even bigger, despite the HUGE press.
Legolord‘s Dawnshire Keep is a treat for the eye. There’s plenty to see in every photo, with so much action, landscaping, and well-built designs.
And for you fellow Christopher Moore fans–Dawnshire Keep is guarded first and foremost by a fool.
SlyOwl busts out of the starting gate with this entry for the Colossal Castle Contest. Packed with all sort of fun olde time carnival action, the dark of side the fair is revealed in the depths below the midway.
