Some LEGO builders elevate the form to fine art in its own right, while others enjoy reproducing famous works of art with the brick. Find beautiful and thought-provoking LEGO artwork right here.

Architect to the LEGO stars

I just don’t know where to start or stop when sifting through d-higdon’s hundreds of photographs of her elegant and skilled LEGO mansions, department stores, country estates and office buildings. But I guess this beautifully lit living room will have to do.

d-higdon light room

I’ve never wanted a big house, but if it were made out of LEGO and furnished by her, I’d buy one in a second. If I had the money.

The Moai of Rapa Nui

Dirk has created some really lovely sculptures of the Moai of Rapa Nui (aka Easter Island). Like many people, I’ve always been very intrigued by these giant statues. The Lego renditions made me smile.

The more things change . . .

. . . the more they stay the same.

Mike Stimpson’s (balakov) interpretation of the classic photo by Jeff Widener of the Associated Press seems quite timely to feature today though he made it some time ago. Twenty years after Tiananmen Square and my understanding is that due to the press blackout on this image in mainland China, it has not been seen by over a billion people in the People’s Republic.

LEGO Tiananmen Tank Man

I very briefly considered posting this as only an image with link to Mike’s original posting on flickr (for graphic punch), but I found that at least 3 flickr users had swiped the image without giving proper credit and I didn’t want to add to that number. It became my introduction to the brick-busters group on flickr. Sad.

The Art Pavilion in Zagreb

Matija Grguric worked for almost a year and a half to make a minifig scale model of the Art Pavilion in Zagreb, Croatia. This massive creation measure around 150 cm long, 85 cm wide and 90 cm high. The display renders the intricate details of the original structure, and the crafting of the roof is particularly skilled.

The model will be displayed at BrickWorld, where attendees will be able to see this amazing work in person.

LEGO Venus De Milo

Dirk has recreated one of the most famous sculptures of Ancient Greece, the Venus De Milo.

This replica is half-size, but Dirk says that he would like to build a full-scale version some day.

There’s a LEGO brick inside each of us

What you're made of by Jason Freeny

Artist Jason Freeny amazed us last year with his detailed minifig anatomy schematic, suggesting that minifigs are just regular humans inside their plastic skins. Turning that idea inside out, Jason’s latest piece — “What you’re made of” — suggests that we all have a brick somewhere inside all of us who consider ourselves LEGO fans.

Brick-themed shirts from Glennz Tees

Kiwi T-shirt designer Glenn Jones (Glennz) has created a couple of really sweet shirts featuring little plastic people.

Flesh and bones

Not quite as elaborate as the full anatomy of a minifig, this brick-built version by Billy McGill (Mt.Dew Monkey) is equally impressive.

LEGO graffiti

Alex Schranz (Orion Pax) tries his hand at LEGO tagging with a 3D version of “PAX” that looks nearly robotic.

Cole gets up

And builds some graffiti out of his bricks. He’s (Cole Blaq) built his own tag in a fade color scheme. I love this graphical style. Ever since my design classes in undergrad, I’ve been a bit of a font nerd, and really enjoy it when people play with the simple forms of letters to make something that’s more than just text.

He’s got mad skillz

Veteran Classic Castle member, Micah Brown, has been drawing forum avatars for some time and they have quickly become sought-after favorites.

Affectionately known as Lord DOOM, Micah is all metal and heart. But besides being a great guy, his Lego-inspired artwork just keeps getting better and better.

He also does commissions, if you want your own custom avatar!
