About Caylin

A life-long LEGO fan, Caylin returned to the hobby as an adult in 2003, after her mother bought her a basic creator tub as a joke. Her mother regrets this. She regularly attends BrickCon in Seattle, Washington, where she goes by the title of Prize Goddess. You can check out her flickr account here.

A Warm Welcome

ShareburG‘s entry for the Colossal Castle Contest over at Classic Castle makes me smile. So many of the details just stand out to me. I like the rounded tower; the little cart with barrels is pretty fabulous, too.

Cube Comparison – LEGO Rubik’s Cube

Jameson built a thing. Or rather, inspired by cheap dice on Bricklink, he built himself a Rubik’s Cube. Given the amount of variations on the cube in general, I thought it was a real one from the thumbnail on Flickr. Impressive!

I want to see more creations using those dice pieces. They’ve got some amazing potential applications.

It begins...

Oh, October. There are many, many things I adore about you. Your cooler weather. Your vibrant colors. The build up through the month to Halloween, and everything that comes with it.

And Jamie‘s annual Halloween figures.

Updates will be sporadic this year. Adds a bit of mystery to the whole lot. Keep an eye on his photostream for his amazing custom figures along with their presentation and back-stories.

You can also check out last year and the year before!

Outpost in the Desert

We feature some amazing creations on here, and I love when the builder adds a level of play-ability to the creation, much like Peter de Yeule has done with his desert outpost.

The build itself is quite excellent. What I loved though is that it opens!

You can see all of the nifty stuff inside. Well done!

Olivia’s House 2.0

A while back, I reviewed Olivia’s House for the Friend’s line. I mentioned then that I might just have an infatuation with the new line, and I’m pretty sure that’s still true.

At the time I reviewed the set, I enjoyed the functionality of it, and was inspired to build something similar. What came of that inspiration was Olivia’s House 2.0.

My main goal for this was to have it come apart, just like the set, though mine admittedly goes back together just one way. I kept some aspects of the original set, too, like parts and designs from the bathroom and kitchen, and the design of some of the extra pieces.

The whole thing ends up being six rooms with two major hallways and a grand staircase, along with an attic. I had a ton of fun building this, getting everything to look exactly how I envisioned it. Eight months to finish it.

You can see more pictures of each individual room and module, along with some of the different smaller builds, in my flickr gallery.

The noble Brutus hath told you Caesar was ambitious

…if it were so, it was a grievous fault. And brilliantly, James Pegrum built it.

The Globe theater is so iconic, as are the works of the bard, who watches from stage-left as his players bring his words to life. Shakespeare’s most famous fans watch from above as Caesar falls, his guards bursting on stage to witness the tragedy.

I’d highly suggest taking in the larger version, and just absorbing the details.

Everyone needs a little more pirate in their life. Right?

I’m sure you do. We all do! TheBrickAvenger built this lovely little playset-esque creation, inspired after a Playmobile playset (gasp!). I’m quite sure I’m biased but this turned out just fantastic. The board roof, and that palm!

He’s got tons more stuff worth checking out on his Flickr stream. Enjoy!

To celebrate the Closing Ceremonies... a disapproving McKayla Maroney in LEGO

I would like to award a Silver medal to Iain Heath for artfully capturing an iconic image from the 30th Olympiad, summarizing the fair sportsmanship and teamwork we associate with those dedicated athletes who give their all.

Also, it’s hysterical.

In all seriousness, congratulations to all of the athletes for their hard work, and safe travels.

I am Gotham’s reckoning.

We so rarely feature custom figures on here, and it’s high time to highlight one. Minh Pham creates exceptional custom figures, so the hardest part is actually picking one. The level of detail on this, like everything else in his portfolio, is just stunning.

Gotham’s reckoning indeed.

The Vintner’s Shop

There are a number of things that caught my eye in Stefan‘s latest creation, The Vintner’s Shop. The lovely color for sure, but then I took a closer look. The detail on the windows on the second floor! The cobblestone road! I had to do a double-take for the stairs to the entrance, too. Just lovely.

There are definitely some good techniques. I highly recommend a closer look!

One Small Step...

It took just one lifetime for man to go from first flight to first man on the moon. That’s awfully impressive. It’s been 43 years since those brave men first set foot on the lunar landscape.

Kevin Murney‘s tribute to the tenacity and ingenuity of the human race is fitting, and impressive in its own right.

Dude...surf’s up!

I can just hear the noise in the background, with the waves, and sounds of people laughing, shouting, and generally having a fabulous time. Dave Ware‘s Surf Shack is just packed with little details that really bring it all to life.
