About Jennifer

Jennifer Spencer received her very first LEGO set, 6419: Rolling Acres Ranch, at age six. But she found the instructions far too complicated and so she forced her father to build (and rebuild) the set for her. He must have grown weary of looking at that instruction booklet because Jennifer did not receive another LEGO set for several years. Jennifer builds her own sets now. She has been active in the online LEGO community since 2011 when she first discovered The Brothers Brick. She’s also a member of her local LEGO users group, NEOLug. You can check out her original LEGO creations on Flickr.

Light up the darkness

This incredible scene by derjoe is instantly recognizable as the abandoned streets of New York City from the movie I Am Legend. If the minifig representing Robert Neville (Will Smith) and his German Shepherd Sam don’t give it away, then the vampire-proofed Ford Expedition certainly does.

Those gorgeous garage doors are my favorite detail. Check out all of derjoe’s awesome builds here.

Graveside at midnight

I have a house rule that I can’t sort new minifigs into their bins until I’ve used them in at least one build. As a result, the Banshee from Minifigures Series 14 has been collecting dust on my desk for almost two months. But thanks to Halloween, her wait is finally over! With this build, I wanted to capture some of the eeriness of Halloween and there’s no place eerier than a graveyard at night.

Steam-age Mutant Ninja Turtles

Mashups are everywhere right now. So it’s strangely unsurprising (but still quite entertaining) to see the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fighting crime in the Victorian period. Karen Quinn has built a charming steam-powered Party Wagon. In addition to everyone’s favorite anthropomorphic turtles, this build includes Guru Splinter, Casey “Sheer Luck” Holmes, Dr. April O’Watson, and Jack the Shredder. Perhaps next time the heroes in a half shell will travel even further back in time, to say, oh I don’t know, the Renaissance?

Lizards and pandas and pirates, oh my!

Halloween is still a week away, but the festivities are already well underway at the Port of Hampton. I’m a big fan of the LEGO Minifigures Series and soccersnyderi has put them to good use in this colorful little build. My favorite detail has to be the minifig poking his head out of the tiny barrel. Soccersnyderi built this for the Halloween Contest at Forbidden Cove which ends on October 31, 2015.
