About Josh

Josh is 30+ years old and has more Lego than he has hair. Which really isn't saying much. He builds mostly medieval creations, but dabbles in other genres. He is also a father and uses his kids as an excuse to buy Lego. That justification isn't working as well as it used to, so if you can think of a better justification, feel free to contact him. Meanwhile, back at the ranch, Josh's Brickshelf gallery gets messier and messier. Josh also has a Flickr gallery, if you care about such things. He goes by the name "floodllama" there. If you wonder why he goes by "floodllama", you've obviously never owned a llama in flood. Josh feels sorry for you.

“Pay Attention, Boy!”

Tyler Clites is in the midst of a whirlwind of creations while participating in the IronBuilder competition. The current piece is the yellow triangular sign piece that he uses for the chicken’s beak in this one. I’m loving the pose and sense of comic tension in this work.

Fredoichi goes green with a tribute to Nnenn

Fredoichi has built a gorgeous fighter as a tribute to Nnenn, including a non-lego windshield, and it rocks. We are all used to Fredoichi’s incredible skills but this one is over the top.

Ye Olde Cleric

This poor cleric is so emaciated, Rong Yiren obviously needs to feed him better. But I’m sure the little guy is too busy pondering the ways of the cosmos to bother with lunch.

Dragon is Hawt

This red-footed dragon, by Mike Nieves is smoking hot. The use of Hero Factory pieces is superb and the articulation really gives it an “alive” look.

There is a lot to look forward to this year. BrickCon has become known for its variety of collaborative layouts, which will include The Brothers Brick’s own layout, Numereji 2421, the Castle layout, Town, Space, Pirate, Pythonscape, Steampunk, Operation Bricklord, the Dragon Fly-In and many more. There is nothing like contributing to a collaborative effort, working with fellow LEGO fans and creating a giant creation that is so much more than the sum of its parts.

There will also be a number of competitions that are tons of fun for those involved and for the spectators. This year will include the 3rd Annual Fig Fling, Wacky Races, the Speed Build, AT-AT races, the Blind Build and more.

On top of all that, there will many different sessions and panels to attend, Lego Gaming, LEGO to purchase or trade, old friends to connect with, new friends to meet and lots and lots of LEGO to look at. Check out the BrickCon website, under the “Event” menu, for a full list of themes, collaborations, events, sessions and activites. The page will continue to be updated as the event draws nearer.

LEGO Final Fantasy VIII Gunblade is charming but deadly

Sandy (AKA Rythmik♫) has built a gunblade that is to die for…or die by. Either way, it has a very sleek, elegant look to it and the pendent gives it that sought after “I’ll kill you but feel bad about it after” vibe that so many people strive for but seldom achieve.

“He made his name in this killing game, he’s the one they call Greenbeard”

If any of you get that reference without looking it up, I’ll be shocked. Regardless, Chris Malloy considerably raised the bar in Forbidden Cove’s Seedpart challenge with this piratical sculpture. Chris is one of my favorite builders out there and he hit this one out of the park. Malloy definitely has skillz!

Another Masterpiece from the Mosaic Mama

Katie Walker is the undisputed ruler of the cheese slope. Give her a random pile of them and the odd handful of 1×1 plates, tiles or bricks and awesome things start to happen. You have to check out her latest. I keep thinking that she is going to run out of new techniques or ideas but it ain’t happening.

This ain’t your Mummy’s Sewing Machine.

This is Monster’s Machine and don’t you forget it. I can’t say that I would fancy wearing clothes made from mummy wrappings, but to each their own. Matt has really been turning out the creations lately and I’m loving it.

It’s all just a facade

Chris McVeigh gives us this wearable self-portrait. It is always amazing to me what a top-notch builder can accomplish with so little.
