2022 LEGO Advent Calendars, Day 22

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Yes, it’s the holiday season, but it’s also the return of our annual LEGO advent calendar extravaganza. We’ll be opening our calendar windows  every day in the run-up to Christmas. Our team will also share their thoughts, comments, observations and jokes about each day’s builds!

We have five advent calendars this year, across the City, Friends, Star Wars, Marvel (specifically Guardians of the Galaxy) and Harry Potter themes. Let’s get right into it and see what’s hiding behind the doors of day 22, shall we?

Friends gets a camera and spotlight for its day 22 build. City gets an adorable foal with some hay as a present.

We have our sixth (!) Hoth build in a row in Star Wars – a section of the Wampa cave to hang yesterday’s Luke Skywalker from. Marvel’s build also pairs with the preceding day, although without looking at the box I never would have worked out these are wings for the speeder. Harry Potter’s build is a standalone Gringotts bank, complete with dragon perched atop.

Chris: That dragon! I’m in love. And hey! It’s the rocket sleigh… Wing…. Thingies. I can’t wait to see it put together. Also I love the white pony!

Ben: Gringotts is fantastic, as is the dragon here atop the bank. The ice cave for Luke to ‘hang out’ in is perfect for a little diorama. Such an overlooked scene in Empire where the audience realises Luke has started to train in the Force.

Bart: Love the Piña Colada Pony.

Kyle: As someone who doesn’t often get the advent calendars, is it rare to have a build split over two days like the GotG ship here?

CJ: The split in the GotG builds seems odd to me too, Kyle. I guess it’s not a big departure from other ‘semi-modular’ vehicles like a snowmobile and a train of cargo pods, but those builds at least felt ‘stand-alone’. This is pretty much “we cheaped out and didn’t budget for enough parts in yesterday’s set.

It seems I’m not the only one who was confused about the GotG wings. There is a click hinge on the speeder that is conspicuously empty, so let’s see if there is a payoff tomorrow…
