It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Yes, it’s the holiday season, but it’s also the return of our annual LEGO advent calendar extravaganza. We’ll be opening our calendar windows daily in the run-up to Christmas. Our team will also share their thoughts, comments, observations, and jokes about each day’s builds!

We have five advent calendars this year, across the City, Friends, Star Wars, Marvel (specifically Guardians of the Galaxy), and Harry Potter themes. Let’s get right into it and see what’s hiding behind the doors of day 9, shall we?

City and Friends diverge on day 9, with the former offering us a bird-box and perch, and the latter offering up a campfire with some marshmallows. There’s some strange Christmas food in this Friends calendar so far.

A trio of minifigures awaits us in the licensed themes, two featuring Christmas sweaters. C-3pO has a charming R2-D2 jumper, with Nebula sporting one with Thanos on the front. Sirius Black looks distinctly lacking in festive cheer by comparison. (To be fair, he is in prison at this point in the Potter timeline.)

Bart: Looks like someone didn’t get the ugly sweater memo… And he looks p*ssed!

Chris: Friends and City seem to have missed the wear-a-Christmas-sweater-to-the-office memo entirely! I do have to admit the birdhouse is pretty cute though. And those are some short sticks for roasting marshmallows.

Ben: The first Christmas jumperday and we get two! A good series of figures in the offing today.

I’m really beginning to appreciate the ‘set dressing’ builds in Friends and City. The smores around the campfire? Divine.

Kyle: 12/9 is a really fantastic day! Two great Christmas sweater torsos, a wonderful printed tile, AND a dope birdhouse!

CJ: Today scores high for everything except that campfire. Assuming that’s a campfire.

I will admit that marshmallows around the campfire are a Christmas tradition that’s new to me. Still, a good excuse to spring a surprise present on your friendly neighbourhood protocol droid, I suppose.
