It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Yes, it’s the holiday season, but it’s also the return of our annual LEGO advent calendar extravaganza. We’ll be opening our calendar windows every day in the run-up to Christmas. Our team will also share their thoughts, comments, observations and jokes about each day’s builds!
We have five advent calendars this year, across the City, Friends, Star Wars, Marvel (specifically Guardians of the Galaxy) and Harry Potter themes. Let’s get right into it and see what’s hiding behind the doors of day 8, shall we?
The City and Friends designers must have been sharing notes as we get two similar builds for the second day running – this time some sweet treats. The Friends build is either a fancy cake or a chocolate fountain; I like to think it’s the latter. I love a chocolate fountain.
Star Wars gives us another of Luke’s Tatooine runabouts, this time his T-16 Skyhopper. Harry Potter has a microbuild of dementors in a forest, and we get a Christmas turkey with flame to cook it from Marvel.
Chris: Harry Potter continues to impress me, and this tiny dementor scene charms once again. Where are the microscale womp rats for the T-16 though?
Bart: Those are some lazy trees, LEGO, and you know it!
Kyle: “Honey, the dementors are playing peek-a-boo in the bushes again!”
Daniel: Looks like an entry for the Great British Bake-Off… Love the T-16 Skyhopper.
Ben: Another solid day, the T-16 is great (and is a nice call-out to the Obi-Wan Kenobi series), the scene from HP is perfect with the Dementors, and a second day where City and Friends align. GotG is a bit of a turkey though…
CJ: Our photo makes it look like the Skyhopper is taking out that turkey. That’s one alternative to deep-fat frying…
Kyle: Your standard Thanksgiving turkey is a quarter the size of a womp rat in Beggars’ Canyon, so that’s a pretty impressive shot!
Kyle is right (as ever) – hitting that turkey is one in a million. You don’t necessarily need to shoot it down though. Roger the battle droid has used the skyhopper to conduct a daring heist as payback for Rocket’s prank.
“Hey! It’s not even finished cooking yet!”
