2020 LEGO Advent Calendars, Day 16

Happy holidays to all of our fellow LEGO builders! As is tradition, we at The Brothers Brick will be opening our advent calendars as we count down to Christmas. We’ll also be sharing commentary on each one, which will be both insightful and hilarious!

This year we have new Harry Potter, Star Wars, City and Friends advent calendars to open. We will be sharing images of the new calendars every day through Christmas, and hope that you’ll join us! Let’s see what there is to open on Day 16.

Need holiday décor? Day 16’s Harry Potter build gives us two trees, while Star Wars results in a micro build of Anakin Skywalker’s pod racer.

Chuck: Probably asking for a lot but the big cone-small cone two-piece tops on those trees feel pretty weak. One more layer of cheese slopes with some more of the ice would make them look a lot more tree-like.

CJ: These smaller trees are a great addition to the Christmas tree from day 13. I’m all for things that help tie the different advent days together. And Potter gets a holiday point for that. The Star Wars calendar gives us Anakin’s pod racer. It’s a nice little build, with a good mix of after-holiday parts.

Lino: “Take two of these and call me in the morning.”

Benjamin: I didn’t realize they ever had snow during the Boonta Eve Classic…

Just because it’s the holidays doesn’t mean crime takes a break. The City advent calendar shared a criminal making a run for it, while the Friends set for today was a fun little gift wrap station.

Adam: Always love the minifigures, but the Friends gift wrapping setup is the best Friends build so far! So few bricks yet you clearly know what it is. Very clever! On another note, the girl’s hairpiece reminds me of the one that came with Sabine Wren in the Star Wars: Rebels sets.

CJ: Today’s visitor from LEGO City Adventures is Daisy Kaboom – a criminal mastermind known for making explosives out of anything. Feels like she would have been a better figure to have day 5’s dynamite sticks, but whatever. It’s a cool hairpiece. The Friends calendar has a gift wrapping station – a good design that again could benefit from just an extra part or two. This feels like they should have mirrored the build from the Elf Clubhouse’s wrapping area, or at least slapped down a 2×2 tile in dark pink to represent the wrapping paper in-use.  But it’s gift-related, so they still get a holiday point.

Lino: There weren’t many job opportunities for Daisy after busting out of the joint. Even her gift wrapping gig was only temporary.

Chuck: Gotta admit, I need that hair piece

Benjamin: Daisy could try making herself a new outfit to replace her prison jumpsuit; the pink would look great with that orange hair.

Bart: Somehow these two sets look like they belong together!

And with that, we’ll call it a wrap. See you tomorrow for another day of the 2020 LEGO Advent Calendars!

There was a theory that Duke DeTain and Daisy Kaboom had a Christmas arrangement where they would give gifts to each other. So Daisy would get a dynamite stick for some handcuffs in return. I leave it up to you to ponder all implications of that…

Maybe all characters accessories of the city calendar are to be offered to another one at Christmas day?
