Welcome to Day 12 of our LEGO Advent Calendar countdown. Each day, we’ll reveal the three mini-builds from the LEGO Star Wars, LEGO Friends, and LEGO City 2018 advent calendars along with commentary from The Brothers Brick team.
If you’re opening one (or more) of these advent calendars along with us, we’ve made sure the pictures and commentary on each day’s models will be behind a jump so we don’t accidentally ruin the surprise. What did the elves bring on Day 12?
For Day 12, we have Anakin’s Starfighter from Star Wars, a trophy ornament from Friends, and an ice cream machine from City.
Nick: Mid-December is prime time for an ice cream cone, didn’t you know?
Andrew: What am I looking at here in the center? Is that supposed to be an award? The ice cream machine is certainly fun, but an odd choice for the generally winter-themed Advent Calendars. Anakin’s Starfighter is an updated design from the 2014 advent, using the corner baby bow pieces.
Daniel: The new version of Anakin’s Starfighter is the perfect companion to the newly released minifig-scale model 75214. Man, that trophy wins the award for worst brick-built trophy. It looks more like a flattened toilet.
Chris: Is it just me, or does the trophy look more like a medal? Anakin’s Starfighter makes excellent use of the new wedge slopes though, and is probably the best version of the ship in small microscale yet!
Edwinder: Not really feeling the the Starfighter, and the ice cream dispenser is making me hungry. That centerpiece is something I really can’t identify with. I dunno what it is, sorry.
Dave: I love the white 1×1 round plate for R2-D2. Does that now count as the smallest (and arguably cutest) scaled variant of the droid!? Andrew and Chris, you have to update your Ultimate LEGO Star Wars book!

Is the center piece a Chalice maybe? I couldn’t tell if it was that or a Trophy.
Nick, you are aware that half the globe has Christmas in the summer, right? It’s currently a balmy 25 deg C here in Auckland, and we are having Christmas dinner as a BBQ on the beach! Definitely going to be ice cream for afters! :)
Not the half that contains Lego’s main markets, in Europe and USA…
As noted on Brickset, it’s likely a trophy to reference Stephanie’s interest in sports.
Not the half that contains 90% of the world’s population…
Though, yes, a fairly substantial chunk of even the norther hemisphere’s population lives in tropical and sub-tropical climates, but I venture a guess that more people are going to be seeing snow in the next few months than have just started summer.
And yeah, Europe, then North America, and east Asia on the rise. I’ve seen regular complaints about how Oceania gets the short end of the stick, sporadic complaints about how they have it even worse in South/Central America, and I once met two guys from South Africa at Brickworld Chicago. No seriously, that’s the sum total I know about the state of AFOLdom in the entire continent of Africa. Even the Middle East beats that with all the talk of Dubai getting a LEGOLAND theme park.
We are baffled at my house by the “trophy.” Is it Christmas related? Maybe it’s the Holy Grail? Haha not really. That would be in the Easter calendar. Why is it blue? Assuming it’s something from the show. Is there a show?
I guess that, since 2018, that Medium Azure/ Yellow combo is meant to be some kind of personal theme for Stephanie, but checking out her sets, it does feel a bit vague.
