2017 LEGO Advent Calendars: Day 15

Welcome to Day 15 of our LEGO Advent Calendar countdown. Each day, we’ll reveal the three mini-builds from the LEGO City, LEGO Star Wars, and LEGO Friends 2017 advent calendars along with commentary from our team.

AdventCalendarDay15

If you’re opening one (or more) of these advent calendars along with us, we’ve made sure the pictures and commentary on each day’s models will be behind a jump and posted in the evening every day, so we don’t accidentally ruin the surprise. For Day 15, will we be thrilled with what we build?

For Day 15, we have a toy fire truck from City, a snowblower from Star Wars, and a hamster house from Friends.

Day 15 1

Chris: I’m impressed. We’ve got a winner on all three fronts here. The City fire truck isn’t the best I’ve seen at this scale, but it’s certainly solid. The Star Wars snowblower is as non-canon as they come—it doesn’t appear in The Ultimate LEGO Star Wars book Andrew and I wrote—but it’s nevertheless a quite excellent model. Plus, it comes with a white ice cream cone element, which is a first in that color. And Friends. OK, so this model is only a “winner” by comparison to all the other Friends models. It’s a tiny rat house with cheese and a Christmas wreath. The fact that it’s more than one thing, and I can tell what they are, puts this ahead of 90% of the Friends calendar models.

Luka: The Star Wars model is good, but very unlike Star Wars. There are great pieces in the fire truck and the mouse is cute. A good day for all three themes.

Dave: The hamster is cute and has only ever come in a promotional polybag and Heartlake Riding Club. The snowblower is fantastic with a new part coloring to boot! Today, City takes third place.

Daniel: The fire truck could use more red. It could have been a crane, but I do like the style of this heavy truck. The snowblower could help explain just how the Rebel Alliance carved those expansive tunnels on Hoth using the lesser known Corellian modified YT 300 Snow and Ice Carver.

Edwinder: I can understand why City needs a fire truck, and Friends needs rodents during playtime, but this snowblower just does not sound right in a Star Wars scene for me:

“Attack the Rebels right now!”
“Sorry sir, we’re all snowed in and we only have these portable snowblowers that will take us 27 hours to clear our path”
“Oh then ok, we’ll attack them tomorrow. Lord Vader is not going to be pleased”

Day 15 2

Chris: Snowblowers from ten paces. High noon. I think this will be in the next season of Fargo.

Dave: I’m glad there is a fire truck around because this duel is about to get heated!

Luka: SnowbloWars?

Daniel: Grandma’s blower looks more substantial, but you know Sabine has more than a few surprises in store. Meanwhile, taking advantage of the distraction, the mouse has liberated the Rebellion of some choice aged Nerf-cheese.

Elspeth: Grandma’s snowblower is looking less flashy now without any snow!

Edwinder: “But Grandma! I need to go work on my Arc Pulse Generator!” … “No Sabine, not until you finish clearing up the lawn and our pavement too!”

The Snowblower goes with yesterdays Snowtrooper of course and it explains why he was unarmed! – it’s kind of a pun, I guess.
