My latest is an interplanetary probe. I wanted to stick with the mix of angles from equilateral triangles and more simple bilateral symmetry at a smaller scale than many of the other creations in the theme. I also wanted to do something a little bit different with the engines.

Jehkay’s Defense Drone
While Jehkay‘s new defense drone pretty much looks like it’s just a couple of boxes from above, it’s actually a pretty cool creation. Underneath the two boxes there’s a cool array of weapons and equipment. The eye or whatever it is in front is pretty cool too. He has also found a very interesting color to use for the background of these shots, I rather like it.
Drinks are on Yoder at the Last Chance Saloon
Mike Yoder (MrYoder) envisions a dystopian future on the edge of explored space, where “an old exploration outpost is now a favorite haunt for traders, smugglers, outlaws and pirates.”
The brick-built lettering in Mike’s signs is truly excellent.
Lots more photos of this great scene on Brickshelf.
A non-Serenity related spaceship called a Firefli.
Tekka Croe has built a beautiful new space fighter. He’s called it the “MX-01 Firefli”, and while I’m not sure why it’s not a “Firefly,” I really enjoy the shape of it. It looks more like a tropical fish than anything else to me, considering all the bright colors and spines. It’s also quite heavily armed, as you can see.
Nathan’s Micro Space
Nathan Simkiss (Arterin) has recently posted a fantastic array of micro scale space creations. He’s managed to make clever use of several parts to create great detail at a small scale. I especially love his “freighter/tanker thing,” below.
30 Years of LEGO Space [News]
As some of you may know, this March (you know, starting tomorrow) marks the 30th anniversary of LEGO space sets. A group of fans is celebrating this in a big way, by unveiling a new Neo-Classic-Space creation every day for the entire month. Check it out, and don’t forget to keep an eye out for my own contribution sometime during the month.
Here’s the press release:
March 2009 sees the 30th anniversary of the original Classic Space sets from LEGO. Now, three decades on, it’s time for a celebration of spacey goodness at www.neoclassicspace.com.
Neo-Classic Space is a reimagining of the LEGO Classic Space range, using modern building techniques and parts. More than just inspired by the Classic Space sets, Neo-Classic Space is an extrapolation of the line into the 21st century and beyond. We aim to follow a carefully thought standard, which we feel is in keeping with the original designs.
The culmination of a top-secret project planned over many months, www.neoclassicspace.com will present a new model every day throughout March, many from builders you already know and love, some from new talent you may not have discovered.
This is only the beginning. It is time to retake space. We hope you’ll come along for the ride!
Jehkay’s capital ship hones in on target
Jehkay‘s space carrier is one beauty of a spacecraft. It stands apart from ordinary ships in its unique design featuring these large quarter circle bricks. The bottom of the creation is also equally well-crafted, holding a special place for a deadly railgun.
Shiny spheres on a black background
Fedde (Karf Oulhu) incorporates a sparkly gold sphere into this mysterious space object:
Shannon Sproule (Shannon Ocean) uses the same chrome piece in blue for this sprightly fighter:

Chris Deck, master mini modeler
It absolutely baffles me that we’ve featured the microscale creations of Chris Deck (Legostein) precisely … once! I realized this oversight when I headed over to the new FBTB to post my own microscale BSG hangar.
Chris’ latest microscale models include a Corporate Alliance Tank Droid and Republic Gunship from Star Wars:
As you might imagine, I’m particularly keen on his Foundry Ship from Battlestar Galactica:
Chris was one of the first micro/mini-scale builders I encountered — way back in 2001~2002, and his LEGO creations have always inspired me. For aspiring LEGO builders out there, Chris includes meticulous instructions for most of his models.
Check out all of his LEGO creations on Chris Deck’s LEGO website and on Brickshelf.
Legohaulic shows us what he’s got
Tyler Clites (Legohaulic) has the, uh, nerve to enter the Show Us What You Got contest with this interesting vehicle dubbed the CS-Nozzle Starfighter.
Sometimes I even build myself
This weekend was one of those times. I built two new creations to add to my alien emissary’s fleet. I built a small flying probe, intended to be similar to a larger one that I’ve already built, as well as hexapodal robot. I also tried something new with the photography, and used HDR techniques to take the photos. These methods seem to have provided very nice results.
Pete Reid’s at it again.
Pete Reid is well known for his Neo Classic-Space ships, and for his hyper-detailed robot models. He’s built another new robot, and this one is in a color scheme after my own heart. It’s full of fantastic little details, from the tip of the staff all the way down to the feet.
