And the results are in!

Well, we’ve been holding our breath, waiting for the results of the Colossal Castle Contest V, and the winners have all been announced! (Actually, they were announced a while ago, but I’ve been too busy to post them here. Bad Josh, bad Josh!)

A most hearty congratulations to the winners!

7036 Dwarves’ Mine, remixed and extended by Alex Eylar

Each of us has our obsessions, and it should be fairly clear from my posts over this past year that one of mine is 7036 Dwarves’ Mine (sadly, currently sold out from The LEGO Shop; UPDATE: 7036 Dwarves’ Mineicon is back!)

As a sucker for anything related to this wonderful set, I couldn’t pass up Alex Eylar‘s take on it:

That’s Alex’s favorite shot, and mine as well. Click the picture for the full gallery on MOCPages.

Cave of peril

Steve Vargo presents a cave scene diorama of heroic knights chasing after a band of rogues. Danger abounds in the cave including ferocious flying creatures, a lurking giant spider, and the bottomless pit. The giant spider web really makes this diorama outstanding.

Minas Tirith by Astuanax

I sometimes feel like I haven’t been paying attention or something when I discover a builder I haven’t heard of before through one of the many LEGO blogs I read (LegOficina dos Baixinhos, in this case). Today’s discovery was Astuanax, whose Lord of the Rings creations are jaw-droppingly gorgeous.

Check out the city of Minas Tirith (above) and The Beacon (below):

Lands of sand and water from Gork

Back in December, I wished for more pictures of Gork‘s CCCV entries. Though we didn’t get around to blogging all of them, Gork had six great entries. Just as I hoped, Gork recently uploaded lots of pictures of several entries, including “Edessa’s Annual Fair” (above) and “Rivus Altus” (below).

LEGO Castle Advent Calendar 2008 pictures leaked [News]

Look what’s due next holiday season, a castle advent calendar! A scan of the figs should take any castle lover to happyland… and now the wait.

The Darque Pontiff takes to the skies!

His Evilness Pontiff Paeyn of the Darque Empire aloft in his sky sled, as captured for posterity by Fedde (aka cthulthu).

If this building trend keeps up, we may need to add a whole new category for all these magical flying contraptions! (Steampunk+Castle for now, and mental note to think about this later…)

Martin Luther gets contentious

Chris Wunz commemorates the moment when Martin Luther nailed his 95 Theses to the church door in Wittenberg, Germany. I love the cobblestones and the arches over the door.

Winter Castle

Tania (tbaixinho) created a very appealing castle that’s different from many others that are sprawling up for the big CCCV contest. Everything is unique from the winter theme to the mosaic pattern of the tower walls and jagged snowscape. Enjoy Winterfell.

The King’s Cloud by Mark Stafford

The CCCV entries just keep pouring in. Mark Stafford‘s entry is a fantastical flying ship in golds and blues. There are so many Bionicle parts in this creation that I think it deserves to be in the “Bionicle” category. ;-)

Ða com of more under misthleoþum / Grendel gongan, godes yrre bær.

It’s been a while since we’ve featured any creations by Micah Berger, so it’s nice to see a whole bunch of updates to his Brickshelf gallery.

My favorite is a rather grisly scene from Beowulf, accompanied by the quote “Then came Grendel… He bore God’s wrath” (that’s the original Old English in the post title). I’ve never seen minifigs dispatched in quite this many different ways…

Ful redy hadde he hise apothecaries / To sende him drogges and his letuaries.

Aaron Andrews‘ final entry for this year’s Colossal Castle Contest (CCCV) is a medieval purveyor of poultices and unguents. With lots of action going on outside and a full interior, there are plenty of details to find in the pictures in Aaron’s gallery on Brickshelf.

(The post title is a quote from Geoffrey Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales, describing the relationship between the Physician and the men who supplied him with pharmaceuticals.)
