Build your own Star Wars AT-RT Scout Walker with these free instructions from Creativbricks [instructions]

Does the sticker-shock of  the 327th Star Corps Clone Troopers Battle Pack have you lamenting that a decent LEGO AT-RT is out of reach? While we found the official LEGO version to be an improvement over past incarnations, this fan design from French builder Creativbricks is even better, and with these free instructions, you can build your own from common LEGO elements.

All-Terrain transports for every occasion from Star Wars legend Tim Goddard

Need to traverse an alien world with variable terrain? Do swoops and speeders leave you motion sick? Can’t handle the smell of the local creature mounts? Sounds like you’re in market for a scout walker! While LEGO does offer a rerspectable new version of the AT-RT, this fan design from prolific Star Wars builder Tim Goddard is in a league all its own, with a nimbler frame with actual articulation in the legs. The front blaster, made from a pin held in place by spoons sticking out from binoculars, is galaxy brain NPU.

Corporate AT-RT

Does the open-air seating of the AT-RT leave you feeling too exposed? Then consider upgrading to Tim’s AT-PT, a heavily plated walker that debuted in Timothy Zahn’s Thrawn trilogy and has yet to appear on screen outside of a defunct mobile game. The Stormtroopers look amazing too with their expressive head tilts. (Tim shares how to make your helmeted characters more expressive with a rubber band here.)

LEGO AT-RT walker is the perfect scale for a clone trooper

Sometimes, official LEGO sets end up feeling just a tad off when it comes to proportions for minifigures, but this custom model by Gubi0222 looks pretty much perfect compared to the on-screen walkers seen in both the Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated show as well as the very brief glimpse of the walker on Kashyyyk in Revenge of the Sith. The small wheel rims make the perfect hip joint, and I do love a good roller skate used for details.

Here’s a shot from the side to better appreciate the ball joints holding the walker’s legs in place, as well as the wonderful shaping of its nose armor.

Join the fight for the republic with this miniature walker from Star Wars

Tim Goddard has built this microscale model of an AT-TE vehicle from Star Wars. This walker sports the colours and logo of the 501st battalion, famed for being under the commander of Anakin Skywalker in the films. Turret cannons at the front and back use wands, from the Harry Potter theme, to represent thin gun barrels. Running alongside the walker is an AT-RT, which has the surprising detail of a screwdriver portraying its blaster cannon. The model also has some great shaping with strong sharp angles, created by the application of triangular tiles.

Clone troopers get the coolest toys

While the time of galactic conflict known as the Clone Wars was just barely glimpsed in theaters between Star Wars Attack of the Clones, and Star Wars Revenge of the Sith, the Clone Wars animated series delved much more deeply into the many vehicles produced to meet the tactical and combative needs of a wide variety of troopers. One of my personal favorites would be the one-man version of the AT-ST, the AT-RT, or All Terrain Recon Transport. This model built by Luca s projects is very nicely detailed in true Minifig scale. There are so many great details, but if I had to pick one, it would be these curved wedges used for the feet.

AT-RT nimbly navigated across the floor of a sinkhole on Utapau

It’s a good thing that clone troopers are genetically enhanced because there is no way an average Stormtrooper could pilot an AT-RT so smoothly over slippery rocks. This fun scene by Inthert combines a well-designed AT-RT, perfectly scaled for a minifig, with some nicely sculpted rock-work.
