Blocklog. Meh.

As I explained back in September, I originally named this blog without giving much thought to the proper nomenclature for LEGO elements, or bricks. “Brickblog” might have been a better choice, and as the vision for this blog has evolved, turning into a bit of a LEGO Boing Boing, “Brick Brick” might have been an even better choice. Unfortunately, since I first started blogging last July, both of those good ideas have been snatched up by other, smarter LEGO bloggers (BrickBlog and Brick Brick).

Now that this blog is no longer just mine, I’ve removed “Dunechaser’s” from the banner, leaving just “Blocklog.” Meh.

So, I’m trying to come up with a new name for the-LEGO-blog-formerly-known-as-Dunechaser’s-Blocklog. What say, you, loyal readers? Post your ideas as comments here, send me an e-mail, or discuss your ideas in this thread over on Classic-Castle Forums. If Josh and I like and use your idea, I’ll send you a prize! You have until next Monday at midnight (PST or GMT-8) (rather, Tuesday morning at midnight), or until Josh and I have enough ideas to pick from.

Okay, go!

Fine print: I haven’t decided on a prize yet. It’ll be LEGO of some sort. You might like it, you might not. Since this is the Internet, I’m afraid I’m going to restrict this to adults. Sorry kids and teenagers. Feel free to vent your frustration at my (and life’s) unfairness. I understand.

Josh’s grand introduction!

Hey All!

My name is Josh and I am Dunechaser’s new partner here in the Blocklog. I was very honored to be asked by him and I hope to live up to his expectations! But first, a little information about myself.

I am 32 years old and have been a Lego fan for the last 27 years or so. I am happily married to a wonderful woman who actively supports my Lego obsession. While it does seem strange to her at times, I think she is just happy that my hobby isn’t something more questionable! I became aware of the online Lego community via Lugnet in 2002 and jumped with both feet. I later joined Classic-Castle.com and that is my main home in cyberspace. Now, onto the MOCs!

Welcome, Josh!

“Dunechaser’s Blocklog” has evolved quite a bit since I first launched it last year. I first envisioned it as nothing more than a showcase for my own LEGO creations, but then I just couldn’t help posting the best creations I found on sites like Brickshelf and Flickr. With so much good stuff out there, keeping up with it has become a bit of a challenge (and quite a time commitment).

To help make your experience here on this blog even better, I’m pleased to announce that Josh Wedin has joined the Blocklog team! Josh is an all-around great guy who’s active in the LEGO community, so many of you may recognize his name.

But enough from me — I’ll let Josh tell you about himself. So, welcome to the team, Josh!

Arkham Asylum?!

Apparently I’ve been living in a cave. I thought 7783
Batcave
was the next large set LEGO would be releasing. (Incidentally, it’s been showing up in stores a couple months early.) Well, crawling out of my hole, I see that LEGO employee Steve Witt has posted box art and the minifigs from an upcoming 7785 Arkham Asylum set. Sweet!

I’m not sure what the security guards’ muskets are about (“Holy blunderbuss, Batman!”), but the other figs are pretty cool.

(Click each picture to go to Steve’s Flickr page and check out the full-size versions.)

Updated Blog Lists

I’ve made a number of updates to the LEGO blog lists over in the navigation area on the right. The LEGO Blogs in English section now includes several new LEGO blogs, as well as more established blogs I’ve found via Technorati or on other blogs.

I hate to play favorites, but the LEGO Blogs in Japanese section now includes an updated list of my favorite Japanese LEGO blogs (I also just updated the main list over on PPB).

Thinking beyond these two languages, I’ve added a LEGO Blogs in Other Languages section, where I’ll be adding links to non-English, non-Japanese blogs.

If you have a LEGO blog not listed in any of these three sections, just leave a comment on this post (I’ll get an e-mail).

Major Updates to Japanese LEGO Blog List

I don’t want to bump the post from last year because it’s pages and pages long, but I’ve updated my list of Japanese LEGO blogs.

Changes include fixing broken links, updating the titles of renamed blogs, removing links to deleted blogs, and adding new blogs.

Among the many additions, highlights include the addition of The Sekiyama Railroad Newsletter (a LEGO Trains blog), Be-bonest, How Many Studs to LEGOLAND? (sort of the English-to-Japanese equivalent of PPB), and legostyle-BLOG (Izzo’s new blog).

I’ll be updating my (very partial) list of Japanese LEGO builders at some point as well. In the meantime, I hope you find the blog list useful and interesting as well.

SpongeBob SquarePants Pics

Following up on his Avatar pictures, Lenny Hoffman has posted detailed images of the Bikini Botton and “Build a Bob” set from the upcoming SpongeBob SquarePants line.

Here are the minifigs, Gary, SpongeBob, Patrick, and Squidward:

Avatar: The Last Airbender Pics

Lenny Hoffman has posted some detailed pictures of sets from the new Avatar: The Last Airbender LEGO theme in a Brickshelf folder. Check out the gallery for set pictures and Lenny’s full commentary, but here are a few close-up shots of the new minifigs:

I think this theme has some great potential for those of us who see sets more for their parts and minifigs. (Even though I watch SpongeBob religiously, I’d never even heard of this TV series until LEGO announced the license.) I’m really starting to warm up to the new flesh-toned minifigs, and these are certainly pretty cool. The torso designs look very useful, and the armor is absolutely stunning.

Why So Few Updates on Pan-Pacific Bricks?

No, I haven’t been neglecting this blog (well, maybe just a little — I do have a small backlog).

The reason there haven’t been that many posts recently here on PPB is that there haven’t been any major holidays being celebrated by Japanese builders, nor have there been any significant product launches that resulted in extensive discussions like there was with Exo-Force.

Ideally, I’d like to post at least twice a week (compared with a couple times a day over on my other LEGO blog), but there just hasn’t been enough subject matter. I guess it’s time for me to fill the gap myself with historical minifigs or something… ;-)

If you’d like to help me by pointing out Japanese or Asian-themed LEGO creations that I might have missed, just leave a comment (I’ll be notified by e-mail) or send me a message at dunechaser AT gmail DOT com.
