2022 LEGO Advent Calendars, Day 20

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Yes, it’s the holiday season, but it’s also the return of our annual LEGO advent calendar extravaganza. We’ll be opening our calendar windows  every day in the run-up to Christmas. Our team will also share their thoughts, comments, observations and jokes about each day’s builds!

We have five advent calendars this year, across the City, Friends, Star Wars, Marvel (specifically Guardians of the Galaxy) and Harry Potter themes. Let’s get right into it and see what’s hiding behind the doors of day 20, shall we?

Friends and City both have builds from previous days in the other calendar. Friends gives us our second Christmas tree, complete with a decorations box with an ‘angel’ for the top of the tree. City has a campfire, just like Friends did on day 9. The marshmallows are bigger in LEGO City though.

Another Christmas tree (of sorts) comes out of the Guardians of the Galaxy tower, to be used in conjunction with yesterday’s Groot minifigure. The other rebel turret, the 1.4 FD P-tower, is what we get in the Star Wars calendar, with a miniature Weasley home – the Burrow – from Harry Potter.

CJ: The Friends tree is a really clever design. A great contrast to the City tree from a couple of days ago.

Ben: GotG is a little meh. HP with these small but instantly recognisable builds are on point this year. So cleverly put together, any fan knows this to be the Weasley homestead. The Hoth radar/cannon is back but I welcome that LEGO try to reinvent the wheel every time.

Bart: For me day 20 is a bit of a let down.

Kyle: Agreed, Bart. Day 20 could use a fig or another micro build besides the Burrow.

Chris: Maybe I’m contrarian, but I like today! The mini Burrow is lovely, and I really like that Friends Christmas tree. Of all the novel Christmas tree designs I’ve seen, this one feels like it has its own unique style, and it nails it.

I agree, Chris – it’s refreshing to see a new take on Christmas trees and the Friends one is great. That said, the Christmas Groot is such a creative way of working a tree into the Marvel calendar. It’s enough to fool Mr Produce into decorating the wrong tree.
