LEGO Ideas launches 21322 Pirates of Barracuda Bay marking the return of classic pirates [News]

LEGO Ideas has revealed its latest fan-inspired set, 21322 Pirates of Barracuda Bay. The impressive 2,545-piece set features a shipwreck island teeming with eight minifigure pirates. As an added bonus, the set can be re-built into a fully working pirate ship. It will sell for US $199.99 | CAN $259.99 | UK £179.99 starting April 1st.

We’ve already gotten a hands-on look in our review of Pirates of Barracuda Bay. Continue reading this article for all the official product images and press release.

21322 Pirates of Barracuda Bay features the return of the classic LEGO Pirates product line. The front of the box is a throwback to classic LEGOLAND boxes with the yellow border and diagonal set name.

The back of the box features a treasure map and highlights a few of the play features. A small panel at the bottom shows the shipwreck can transform into a proper pirate ship.

When assembled, the pirate shipwreck island measures more than 23 inches high (59 cm), 25 inches wide (64cm) and 12 inches deep (32cm). Though not the biggest LEGO Ideas set by piece count, the 2,545-pieces of Barracuda Bay make the set feel huge.

The original fan submission by Pablo Sánchez Jiménez was one of the fastest ever LEGO Ideas projects to obtain the needed number of votes to qualify for an official LEGO review. The submission did not feature sails nor was it as tall as the newly revealed set.

The official LEGO version is quite different in appearance but stays true to the feel of Pablo’s original submission–with the added benefit of transforming it into a complete pirate ship. The set looks more like a shipwreck and still keeps the main ideas of the original submission like the bow, mast, cannons and palm tree overgrowth.

Three sections of the ship can be removed from the island (which breaks apart into two halves). The island features a few hidden Easter eggs for fans of the original Pirates and Islanders product lines.

With some configuration, the three sections of the ship can combine into an homage to the original Black Seas Barracuda set released in 1989.

The Barracuda sails again with Captain Redbeard back at the helm. The ship features two masts, captains’s quarters, galley and more.

The set comes with eight minifigures (not including two skeletons, two parrots, two frogs, three crabs, and a shark and a pig.) Captain Redbeard has a new updated look while still remaining true to the original, same as Lady Anchor, Robin Loot and twins Port and Starboard.

In terms of play areas, Barracuda Bay features the captain’s cabin, a kitchen, bedrooms, a supply dock, a farm, toilet, and even a jail cell and tavern. Each location is full of accessories and hidden treasures befitting a fine pirate crew.

The official lifestyle images reveal the considerable size of the set on a small table.

21322 Pirates of Barracuda Bay will retail for US $199.99 | CAN $259.99 | UK £179.99 beginning April 1st (no joke!) from LEGO.com and local LEGO Stores (should they be re-opened pending current events).

ARGHHH ME HEARTIES! EXPLORE AN EPIC SHIPWRECK WITH THE NEW LEGO IDEAS PIRATES OF BARRACUDA BAY

The LEGO Group has announced the latest LEGO Ideas set, bringing back memories of the beloved LEGO Pirates theme.

[24th March 2020] Become a pirate with this brand-new LEGO Ideas set, inspired by the 1989 Black Seas Barracuda pirate ship model. Adventurers can now explore the island and the wreckage of Captain Redbeard’s famous ship, which was lost at sea over 30 years ago.

The new LEGO© Ideas Pirates of Barracuda Bay set has been created based on a submission to the LEGO Ideas platform by fan designer Pablo Sánchez Jiménez, who has a passion for all things pirate and was inspired after building LEGO brick models with his dad when he was young. The concept behind the LEGO IDEAS Pirates of Barracuda Bay set reached the 10,000-supporter milestone in just 25 days – making it one of the quickest sets to hit the target.

With 2,545-pieces in total, the model contains everything a pirate or LEGO fan needs to create the ultimate shipwreck – including a captain’s quarters, food store and supply dock. LEGO builders can even uncover buried treasure on the island by removing parts of the ship to explore new areas and create new stories.

This set also contains 8 Minifigures all based on pirate characters from the classic pirate lines, including the iconic Captain Redbeard, Lady Anchor, Robin Loot and the twins, Port and Starboard, as well as 3 other pirates and 2 skeleton figures and various animals to discover on the island.

When builders tire of being stranded at sea, the island can also be reassembled to create Captain Redbeard’s legendary ship, the Black Seas Barracuda. Rebuild the ship to launch a rescue mission to take the ship’s crew back to safety and find the buried treasure.

The LEGO Ideas Pirates of Barracuda Bay set measures over 23” (59cm) high, 25” (64cm) wide and 12” (32cm) deep and is sure to catch the eye whether proudly displayed or placed amongst other LEGO Pirate sets.

LEGO Ideas offers fans the opportunity to submit their own brick creations with the chance to have their concept brought to life with the help of LEGO master designers and a share of the net sales.

Fans can submit their own LEGO set ideas at ideas.LEGO.com.

21322 LEGO Ideas Pirates of Barracuda Bay will be available directly via LEGO.com and LEGO Stores from April 1st 2020.
