The Brothers Brick

2019 LEGO Advent Calendars, Day 21

Welcome to Day 21 of our LEGO Advent Calendar countdown. Each day, we’ll reveal the four mini-builds from the LEGO Harry Potter, LEGO Star Wars, LEGO Friends, and LEGO City 2019 advent calendars along with commentary from The Brothers Brick team.

If you’re opening one (or more) of these advent calendars along with us, we’ve made sure the pictures and commentary on each day’s models will be behind a jump so we don’t accidentally ruin the surprise. Will Day 21 be fun?

For Day 21, we have the Hogwarts Architect statue from Harry Potter and a Twin-Pod Cloud Car from Star Wars.

Dave: Today we have our FIFTH exclusive minifig from the Harry Potter advent–the Hogwarts Architect! The statue comes all in pearl gold and holds a mini-Hogwarts and a scroll of charts or blueprints (or gold-prints!?). I have to say, this statue is pretty obscure for inclusion in the first ever Harry Potter advent, but I actually don’t mind. In combination with the plinth we received yesterday, this becomes the focal point of the Harry Potter scene when all of the advent builds are put together. Plus mono-color minifigure fans will love having all those pearl gold parts in one place, plus a new exclusive gold beard!

For Star Wars, we have a twin pod cloud car (1×2 clear brick not included). The build is simple enough and conveys the idea of the iconic flying vehicle pretty well. That light grey neck bracket is an updated element and therefore exclusive in that color to this advent. Our friends at New Elementary have a good analysis of why the element changed in the middle of their LEGO Ideas Treehouse parts analysis.

Lino: “Sure, maybe I have obscure and unconventional tastes in pop culture references, but for me it was the best Christmas ever!”

Benjamin: It’s too bad they can’t make the twin pod cloud car properly orange even at this scale.

Chris: OK, that gold beard piece is awesome.

Chuck: “Sure, I can hold your luggage, and your cone-soda. What’s it to me? I’ll be here when you get back.”

Matt: Gold beard….gold beard? I need some of that in my life, please! Oh yeah, the cloud car is cool, too.

Continuing with Day 21, we have gingerbread house ornament from Friends and a telescope from City.

Dave: For Friends, that gingerbread house is quite well done. I think it is better than the similar version in the 2017 City advent which was slightly smaller. My only worry is when the ornament is strung and hung the roof might open up on the hinge because of the weight. For City, the telescope is recognizable, but it doesn’t really work as an accessory because the height of the stand makes posing a minifigure with it quite challenging, getting their eye to line up with the eyepiece.

Lino: It still seems small, even through a telescope.

Benjamin: What is that, a gingerbread house for ants?

Chris: The gingerbread house is pretty great for that scale.

Chuck: Seems like there should be able to be fewer colors in that telescope build, it’s all over the place.

Matt: If you missed out on the LEGO Gingerbread House, here’s you conciliation.

Whenever we can, we’ll mash up all the LEGO advent calendar builds from that specific day and see what kind of hilarity ensues. Please enjoy these hijinks!

Dave: I couldn’t help but include last year’s Cloud City advent build for a bit of forced perspective! And the plinth is now complete with the Hogwarts Architect statue placed on top.

Lino: These game nights are getting weirder and weirder.

Benjamin: “I can’t see anything through this thing.”
“You have it pointed at nothing, that’s why. Point it lower and check out the pod car race. Sebulba is in the lead!”

Chris: LEGO has made six models of the Twin-Pod Cloud Car, and half of them have been made for advent calendars, the two in the picture above and one from 2013
