Welcome to Day 5 of our LEGO Advent Calendar countdown. Each day, we’ll reveal the three mini-builds from the LEGO Star Wars, LEGO Friends, and LEGO City 2018 advent calendars along with commentary from The Brothers Brick team.
If you’re opening one (or more) of these advent calendars along with us, we’ve made sure the pictures and commentary on each day’s models will be behind a jump so we don’t accidentally ruin the surprise. Let’s take a dive into Day 5!
For Day 5, we have bounty hunter droid IG-88 from Star Wars, a snowman ornament from Friends, and a sled from City.
Dave: IG-88 is at least more interesting than a battle droid. I got him earlier this year in the 75167 Bounty Hunter Battle Pack, and at least he comes with two extra silver arms. Friends actually comes closer than last year making a snowman but it still looks like a weird candle with an inappropriately placed target. And after a day with no building from City, we get a sled and snow hill that are just… sad. At least you get a decent amount of ice skates.
Daniel: IG-88 likes spending time with his Hoth friend, ICE-E-88. Honestly, it’s nice getting another printed cylinder brick. The sled feels pretty simplistic, but ice skates are always good greeble material.
Andrew: Do we really need yet another IG-88? And what is that round piece hiding on that snowman? It’s just… odd.
Nick: IG-88 will never be forgiven for traumatizing 5-year-old me in the Shadows of the Empire game. I swear if this Star Wars advent calendar has a N64 graphics-style Wampa, I’ll…
Chris: This version of IG-88 has only been in two other sets, so he’s not actually as common as I thought. The snowman here is just bad, though. I get that it needs to be an ornament, but this guy looks more like a candle with a bullet hole in his hat. And I’m not even going to touch on the sled and ramp. Really LEGO?
Edwinder: “Hey there shiny silver bot… wanna go for a ride down my sled?”
Dave: IG-88 ruthlessly trampled the poor snowman’s child into a pile of perfect ski powder.
Chris: “What a thrilling jump. Meatbags must love this.”
Edwinder: “Stick em up! I’m taking this ride of yours all alone… I got to chase me some bounty. Christmas is a comin’ and I need some cash for my stash!”

So, this is your first combined joke build for the year. Have you begun thinking the connections became too strained to keep up the tradition?…
Lego really have let us down this year
The Friends ornaments threw a wrench in making combined joke builds that made sense, but we have a few fun ones coming up!
