Undertale turns 10: Let’s celebrate with LEGO tributes

Ten years ago this week, Toby Fox’s pixel adventure Undertale released, creating a stir in the gaming world with its beloved characters, haunting music, inversions of video game tropes, and a profound sense of empathy. A trio of fans expressed their appreciation for the game in LEGO in a charming collab.

gcbricks creates Frisk, Papyrus, and Sans as minifigs. The characters use all LEGO parts, but this custom minifig creator uses knife, glue, and eraser as part of their craft.

lego_brickey assembles Mettaton, the robot with a SOUL. Minifig arms make great cartoony fingers for this entertainment bot turned anti-human boss.

Lastly, snom_nom sculpts a beautiful render for a custom Asriel head. Undertale, and its follow-up Deltarune, made a profound impact on the builder’s life. Her tribute to Deltarune on the Ideas platform is currently under review.

Stay determined with this quartet of Undertale characters

Nine years ago this week, Undertale was released, going from a scrappy Kickstarter-funded passion project to one of the most beloved indie games of all time. The RPG “where no one has to get hurt” challenged what it means to be a game hero and won hearts with its humor, soundtrack, and memorable characters. Builder and LEGO photographer GlimpseGlow brings four key characters to life in brick form, capturing their pixel charm in miniature. First up is Asriel Dreemurr. And look! He brought flowers. How lovely.

You are filled with determination (and spaghetti)

First it was Angry Birds, then Minecraft, then Five Nights at Freddy’s. Now the latest fad videogame phenomenon (if my teen’s current free time and fashion choices are any indication) appears to be the retro roleplaying runaway hit UNDERTALE. Such is the charm of this game, that even this old fart found himself playing …until I realized it had taken me a week to get just 5% of the way through!

Not surprisingly, LEGO versions of the game’s characters have started to appear online. I’ve picked out my favorites in the gallery below, and even created a LEGO Undertale Flickr group so we can all keep up with what I hope is gonna be a popular new building theme in 2016.
