Join our haunted tour of this epic LEGO lair for New Orleans vampires

Jeff Chapman has carved out a place in the LEGO builder scene with a bloody knife, specializing in the macabre with a historical twist. While most of his creations so far have centered around Salem, for his latest build, Jeff travels south to New Orleans, another American city brimming with haunted history. Like his New England builds, Jeff bases his model on a real-world location, in this case an iconic corner building on Royal Street that was home to the legendary Jacques St Germain, the French Quarter vampire!

Salem’s most haunted house in LEGO

Did someone say spooky LEGO haunted house? Where are those Hidden Side kids when you need them? Builder Jeff Chapman is back with another stunning recreation of a Salem landmark shrouded in ghost stories. This time it’s the Joshua Ward house, built in 1784 in the brick federal style. What makes it noteworthy is less the architecture (which is lovely with all that dark red!) but it’s haunted legacy, as the mansion was built on the site where a zealous sheriff had his home and makeshift witch prison during the infamous witch trials.

As we’ve come to expect from Jeff, the presentation is impeccable, with the building resting on a dynamic patch of terrain littered with fall leaves from that amazing tree. The climbing vines are especially effective, incorporating snakes and claws amongst the leaves. While the brick red walls are uniform in color, Jeff packs in detail, from the great keystone arches over the windows to the added weathering on the chimneys. Jeff guides you through the build process and tells the full haunted history on his always-entertaining Spooky Brixx channel.

A bewitching build of spooky Salem

Jeff Chapman has been sharing his bewitching LEGO creations for less than a year, but we’ve already fallen under his spell. His latest build, a 17th-century Salem farmhouse, is uncannily accurate to the historical reference, and utterly haunting. Jeff uses an impressive assortment of printed planks for a slick finish that photographs incredibly well – especially under spooky lighting with the back-lit stained glass windows. The house’s simple shape hides some clever building techniques to pull off those lovely flush corners. It’s such an elegant build that transports you back to the time of the witch trials. (This build’s real-life inspiration is briefly seen in the film Hocus Pocus!)

More than a marvelous builder, Jeff brings his creations to life on his Spooky Brixx YouTube channel. Each short video offers a detailed build overview, photo references, and a dash of animated story and effects that bring the history and haunts to life.
