Reminder: LUGNuts Heroes & Villains challenge ends next week!

The Heroes & Villains building challenge ends on March 15. To get your last-minute creative juices flowing, let’s round up a few of the vehicles we haven’t featured yet.

Here’s a Super-lowrider from Jake (more on Brickshelf):

Alex Eyler‘s own assassin, the Mad Hatter (not to be confused with the Batman character), gets a sweet ride:

How did I miss this?! I’ll admit to being a bit behind, so MasterGongfu‘s link to this great LUGNuts Heroes & Villains entry by Nathan Proudlove was very much appreciated.

The dominating feature on this great car is of course the roof — a brick-built Ace of Spades that begs the question, are decals and stickers ever necessary when something like this is possible?

Announcing the LUGNuts Heroes and Villains building challenge

Lino Martins says, “Everyone knows Batman has all the coolest rides.”

As Nathan Proudlove demonstrates above, that’s certainly true! But if you’ve always thought that Spider-Man got hung out to dry or the Green Lantern got left out in the dark, the Heroes and Villains Challenge in the LUGNuts group on Flickr is your chance to give your favorite characters a sweet, sweet ride.

Here’s a bit more from Lino:

Variety is important and I’d like to see this become the coolest and most successful LUGNuts challenge yet, so if the creative juices are really flowing and you can’t decide on just one good guy or bad, then with this and every challenge, each LUGNut is encouraged to “go nuts” and build lots of MOCs! Also, while Marvel and DC offers a vast array of material to work with, you can build for your fave hero or villain outside of the comic book world as well.

Read all about the this challenge in Lino’s official announcement.

Finally, I can’t help sharing a bit of inspiration from one of my favorite builders, MisterZumbi:

Wicked. Okay people, get building! Zoom zoom!

Volkswagen Stink Bug by Lino Martins

Lino Martins says he wanted to build a classic Volkswagen Beetle before LEGO releases their “official” version next year.

The exposed engine is fantastic (which makes this a “rat rod” — an entry for the latest LUGNuts building contest), but Lino doesn’t disappoint with the front either:

Modified Machines by the LUGNuts

LUGNuts is a new Flickr group that focuses on LEGO vehicles. They’ve just concluded their first contest, “Modified Machines,” and here are a couple of my favorites…

Lino Martins‘ 1968 Pontiac GTO:

Nathan Proudlove‘s 1964 Chevy El Camino dragracer:

With talented builders like Lino, Nathan, Ricardo “Biczzz” Prates, and Steven Marshall as LUGNuts members, I can’t wait to see what the next contest, “I Smell a Rat,” will yield!
