Andor’s TIE Avenger debuts in LEGO in fan build

You should be watching Andor for the incredible writing and performances that bring the Star Wars universe to life with unmatched texture and nuance. But if you’re reading on a LEGO site, chances are you’re also scanning every scene for new ships and droids to inspire future MOCs or sets to anticipate next May the Fourth. Andor season 2 delivers on both cinema craft and spacecraft in its opening minutes with an incredible TIE Fighter heist, and I know I wasn’t alone in seeing that ship and saying, “that will make an incredible LEGO set!” Builder Michał Kozłowski, aka Edge of Bricks, was inspired by the first shots of the TIE Avenger in the Andor trailer and set to work making a remarkably screen-accurate version from 1,088 parts.

Andor's TIE Avenger MOC_1

Originally appearing in the PC game Star Wars: TIE Fighter,  the TIE Avenger is a cousin to the TIE Interceptor. A quality over quantity shift from the standard TIE strategy, the Avenger is equipped with heavier armor plating, a robust armament, and a hyperdrive. Michał’s model captures the wing-mounted missiles, but it is missing the heavy laser beneath the cockpit and the rotary cannons to the sides, which we didn’t get a clear look at until the first episode premiered this week. No doubt Michał will correct this, and in the meantime, it’s a remarkable likeness on a quick turnaround

A worthy watery tribute to a great LEGO theme

While LEGO Star Wars may have brought me back to buying LEGO sets regularly, the Atlantis theme from 2010-2011 was one of the first themes where I bought every set that came out. It was a perfect mix of submarines and sci-fi. By the look of this awesome homage to one of the most memorable sets in the theme, by Edge of Bricks is as big a fan as I am.

Gateway of the Squid MOC_2

This reboot of LEGO Atlantis 8061 Gateway of the Squid is a substantial upgrade of the original but retains all of the classic elements, including a cage made of squid bones (which is cool, even if squids don’t have any bones). The base is packed with great undersea flora and fauna, including a garden of green hot dog elements and glow-in-the-dark crowns as anemones.

Take a Minecraft Warped Forest tour in LEGO for alternative rocks

In the Minecraft gaming world, player mods push the game’s visuals to new heights. In the LEGO community, builders like Michał Kozłowski (Edge of Bricks) similarly add AFOL innovation to the Minecraft theme and the results are truly next-gen. Michał’s ornate take on this Nether biome is night-and-day different from the official LEGO interpretation. Tooth plates make for excellent weeping vines on the fungal “trees.” Most impressive is Michał’s pixelated lava, which mixes solid and transparent orange elements and looks amazing when lit up with a third-party lighting kit.
