The LEGO boar of Erymanthos

Don’t let the weapons sticking out of the creature’s side, Hercules really is trying to take him in alive. This June seems ripe with Kaiju-inspired creations and Builder MySnailEatsPizza has added their own to the mix. Based on the fourth of Hercules’ twelve labors, this massive boar terrorizes the villages and forests surrounding Mount Erymanthos. A brick-built snout and face blends in with Technic and Bionicle pieces in the body. A smattering of bones of those that have fallen before it compliment its numerous, massive tusks.

The Erymanthian Boar

Classic pieces from the Bionicle line make up the shoulder and sides leading into thick, brick-built back legs. Tires provide added thickness around the connecting bars used in the lower portions of the legs which end in simple but satisfying hooves.

Bright red eyes, made from a red fang piece, stand out from the boar’s black body and compliment the bright orange spiny mane struck across its back. I suspect flex hoses are used to provide the arch of orange as well as the bending tail peeking out from behind it.

The Erymanthian Boar

A truly mythological beast with a legendary story, this was a great choice by MSEP. Their execution resulted in a fear-inducing, Miyazaki-esque creature with a technical structure worth note. I mean, the minifigure arms above the eyes catch the light just right for this model and it all works so well!
