Elves 2018 sets are revealed with new colours and new parts aplenty [News]

LEGO Elves sets have always been a rich source of beautiful colours and interesting parts for builders who prefer to make their own creations. Five sets due for release in 2018 have been revealed, and there are some great new parts and colours to be found. The largest set, 41194 Noctura’s Tower & the Earth Fox Rescue looks to have a nice supply of Zombie Teal (a colour that is returning in 2018 after being ‘killed off‘ back in 2006). Let’s take a closer look.

A closer look at the the tower shows a new kite-shaped, transparent part, decorated with Elves elemental icons.

Teal (also known as Dark Turquoise or Bright Bluish Green) parts include a 4×4 dish, Iron Fence 1X4X2 (Design ID 19121), Plate 1 x 1 with Tooth Vertical (Design ID 15070) and 1 x 1 x 6 Solid Pillar (Design ID 43888). It seems that the new archways we saw in the Disney sets also appear in this set  in Dark Blue at the main entrance to the tower.

Many fans were excited to see a new leaf, officially known as Plant, W/Plate 1X1, No. 1 (Design ID 32607) appear in some Junior sets in Bright Green and it appears in Medium Lavender in this set.  I also spotted a Lime minifigure triangular shield (Design ID 3846) and Pearl Gold 1×1 plate with rounded handle (Part 26047)

The Teal Cone 4 x 4 x 2 with Axle Hole (Design ID 3943) is a great part in this colour.

It looks as though there are 7 or 8 of the new  Flower 1×1 (Design ID 24866) in Bright Light Blue and the aforementioned Plant, W/Plate 1X1, No. 1 (Design ID 32607) is present in Bright Green.

41192 Azari & The Fire Lion Capture

Another useful part appears in Teal in this set, Round 2×2 plates form the catapult’s wheels.

The Spider with Elongated Abdomen (Design ID 29111) has only appeared in Red up until now, so Bright Light Yellow is a new colour.

The turtle’s shell has Round Corner 3 x 3 (Design 30357) and Wedge 4 x 2 Triple Left (Design ID 43710) in Dark Azure for the first time.

The Bat style wings are new in Transparent Yellow and appear in three of the other Elves sets above.

I haven’t counted Minidolls and their various accoutrements in the new items, so there will be other new parts to identify no doubt.

What other new parts or colours have you spotted in upcoming 2018 sets and would love to use in your own builds?

Nice, love all that teal. Have those curved top bricks (turtle legs) been in light aqua? And loving all that dark blue also. Great colors for these sets. Too bad about the huge animal pieces, not my thing (would’ve preferred those heads to be at least more segmented if not brick-built).

Is it just me, or have the Elves bad guy castles been getting smaller?
Ragana’s Magic Shadow Castle was huge (and very useful), but the Goblin King’s Fortress was barely half the size. And this one looks even smaller. Why?

Also, it’s pretty clear to me that the ‘Earth Fox’ is supposed to be a kitsune (I guess they just didn’t have the budget for all nine tails), and . . . eeeeh. It’s alright for what it is, but I was really hoping they’d make it in a colour that won’t look out of place outside of Elves. Not to mention the fact that they’ve gone back to that pain-in-the-ass-unposeable leg system for it . . . yeah, Noctura’s Tower is a miss for me. A few good parts, but overall just a letdown.

In fact, a lot of these don’t look great. The floating island is cool, but that is a WYVERN, you fools. Not a dragon! And it’s definitely a step down from Aira’s previous dragon. And that eagle just seems undersized and unfinished. (Also, Emily’s slacking on the weapons department. What, did you leave your sword from last year in the human world?)

The Water Turtle Ambush and Fire Lion Capture, on the other hand, look pretty good. I’m not sure why that lion has wings, but it does look cool. And that turtle is adorable – not to mention, it has a baby! So cute! Not to mention, I think those are fez pieces in flame yellowish orange on Azari’s hammer. Those will be useful indeed. Not to mention the recoloured spider.

So, two and a half of five. (Not to mention, there really should have been a phoenix somewhere in there.) I really hope the summer wave sees an improvement

The transparent kite you point out on Nocturna’s castle is four separate pieces – there is one elemental piece on each of the animal’s heads (with the exception of the fox, for some reason). And that’s all I need – more nicely shaped trans-elements that will probably tessellate beautifully…

There are parts of this wave that intrigue me – Nocturna & her abilities, the Elves seemingly dressed for battle & wielding weaponry. But I’m not sure about the mystical animals yet – hopefully they’ll be satisfying in hand.

And like Taylor, I was initially let down by Aira’s wyvern – but I missed out on the Wind Dragon from year two sets and this seems like it might be a start to building something like one of those. Plus the Aira set has one of the new characters…

And as for Emily’s missing sword, perhaps Sophie has it….
