While the 42056 Porsche 911 GT3 RS is an amazing collector’s item, there’s no denying that it makes a fantastic parts pack, especially with all those orange Technic panel pieces. František Hajdekr has used those panels in a unique way, fashioning them into a cordless drill hammer.
If you look closely at the build, you may notice the Technic power functions XL-Motor. This isn’t a flashy model; under all those orange panels is a working mechanism that causes the chisel to move back and forth. While it might not help you in your next home improvement project, it’s certainly a fun idea! You can see it in action below:
If it has a chisel on it, I’m not sure it’s actually a hammer drill. I don’t know what it would be called instead, but I once got to break in a brand-new Hilti cordless hammer drill, and I don’t remember anything like that chisel bit being available. A hammer drill is just a super beefy regular drill, but there’s a switch you can flip to make something inside rapidly “hammer” the drive shaft for the drill chuck. When drilling something like wood, you would just leave it set to regular drill (or grab a drill that weighs a lot less, if you’re going to be doing a lot of drilling). When drilling cinder blocks, mortar, or other forms of masonry, you’d switch to a masonry bit and turn on the hammer action to drive the tip of the bit into the masonry to help break it up faster.
