Nominations submitted for LEGO Ambassadors [News]

The submission deadline for LEGO Ambassadors was 4:00 PM PDT today. Thanks to everybody who suggested nominees, voted, and contributed testimonials, we had everything in place and I hit Send on the e-mail to LEGO with over 15 minutes to spare! :-D

538 people voted, and here are the results:

  • Andrew Becraft: 323 votes
  • Nannan Zhang: 273 votes
  • Adrian Florea: 171 votes
  • Tim Gould: 152 votes
  • Nathan Proudlove: 101 votes
  • Ley Ward: 81 votes

Although Adrian had the votes to be the third nominee, we didn’t get enough testimonials for him. That means the next person with the necessary number of testimonials (three) became the third nominee. The final list of nominees is:

  • Andrew Becraft
  • Nannan Zhang
  • Tim Gould

With the votes and testimonials in place, we put together the submission package earlier today and I sent it off to LEGO.

We’ve learned a lot from this process, and if LEGO uses the same process next year, we’ll probably do things a bit differently — like not waiting until the last day to put together the submission! If you have any feedback on how we went about this, please feel free to post a comment here or use the Contact page to send us a private message.

Speaking personally now that the nomination process is over, I’m humbled by all the votes cast in my favor, and touched by all the kind words readers posted as testimonials. If selected by LEGO as an Ambassador for the 2008-2009 cycle, I’ll do my very best to represent all of you out there.

Wish us luck! :-)

(For those of you who are also on Flickr, I submitted those nominations as well. Read more in the discussion thread there.)

Thank you for organizing the nominatio Andrew and Josh, and I too am thankful for all those who supported me for the position.

  2. Gambort

Thank you very much indeed. I hope that Adrian got the testimonials elsewhere. I wish I’d been more thorough in checking the threads or I would have written him one myself.

  3. Rocko

Wait, the guy with more votes didn’t place? That seems kind of messed up. Do you really need twenty testimonials that all say the same crap over and over. What is this, Florida?

@Rocko: We didn’t make the rules about needing three testimonials. I don’t want to criticize our readership, but if this community had stepped up and put their testimonials where they put their votes, we wouldn’t be in this awkward situation. :( I included an explanation to this effect in the submission document.

  5. Rocko

I see that now but for some reason I was under the impression that testimonials were supplementary. If I would have understood the intricacies I would have made it a point to write a few. Sorry Adrian.

  6. Olog

Well apparently I’m stumbling upon this too late.

I just have to say that I find it funny that there weren’t enough people to write three testimonials. Thanks for the support though, here’s hoping next time I’ll do better.

  7. Demeter Norbi

    I can’t believe this shit.
Sorry for my language, i don’t mean to offend, i’m just perplexed.

  8. Andrew Post author

Demeter, I hear and understand your concerns. I’m communicating with Adrian to explain the situation in more detail, and appreciate your patience as we work things out.

  9. Gambort

Rocko & Demeter> Given that Andrew explained the situation in the application and no-one here wrote the rules I don’t see that he or Josh (as coordinators) could have done anything more. Would you have preferred just two valid nominees for TBB?

As to the application system… why a group of four people can potentially put forth the same number of nominees as a blog with a voting readership of five hundred is beyond me. The longer the application process went on the more flaws I saw in it, even disregarding the excessive work placed on the application collators. If I get a spot in the program I’ll be raising that as an issue.

  10. Rocko

No, no. I understand what’s going on. I just don’t agree with it. Regardless, I think that your placement in the top three was deserved and well earned. In no way am I try to spoil someones fun. ;)

  11. Demeter Norbi

Don’t get me wrong, I have nothing against the current nominees and i wasn’t criticizing the system that was used, i was just rooting for Adrian, and i couldn’t believe that there wasn’t anyone else to write a testimonial for him!
too bad, people who voted for him should have backed him up! This goes for all of you others who haven’t written something for the guys you voted for.

  12. Demeter Norbi

Oh yeah, i forgot something: people call me NORBI, not Demeter(which is my family-name). so call me NORBI

  13. Andrew Post author

Thanks for understanding, Rocko and Norbi. Next time, we’ll push a lot harder to get testimonials, and give more time to collect them. Lesson learned, definitely. :)

  14. Gambort

Sorry Norbi. It’s a bit easier for us anglophones to work out which of Adrian’s names is the first one ;)

Rock & Norbi> I understand that you got it but possibly other readers wouldn’t so I wanted to spell out in full where I think the problem lay. The system is terribly flawed but I don’t think the flaw lies here.

And for what it’s worth I would have preferred Adrian to have the spot as he had received more votes and I’ve already been nominated in other places. I don’t consider my spot for TBB to be earned, it is merely pragmatic.

Andrew> Given the short application period I’m not sure where you could have grabbed the extra time.
