Those of us who attended BrickCon 2007 last weekend learned that Will Chapman of BrickArms is working on some new weapons. Will generously gave me some early prototypes to show off to everyone out there interested in custom accessories for their minifigs.
The first two weapons should be familiar to fans of a certain trilogy of popular video games:
Will is also working on some real-world weapons, including the M1 Garand rifle:
In a session on Sunday morning, Will also described his development process, including how he uses test molds to create small batches of prototypes before committing to a final design. I thought the test molds were really cool, so he lent me an early version he used to design the M1 Garand:
Will asked me to remind everyone that he’s just experimenting at this point, and he can’t guarantee that any of these will make it into production. I personally think these are very cool, and can’t wait to see the final versions.
Sometimes I wish I wasn’t such a bitter traditionalist. If there was ever a reason to break with Lego orthadoxy, this would be it. The quality is high, and the prices (relatively speaking) are low. BrickArms are a great product, just one that I can’t ever use.
The prices are low, have you seen the cost of Batman weapons?
I’m not a fan of guns, I want so more Brickforge animals. :)
Man, having some MA5B Assault Rifles and M6D Magnums would be completely awesome.
Won’t he get problems with copyright issues and all?
I mean, the design of those weapons from halo, are copyrighted by Bungie/Microsoft…right?
No copyright issues, as Will isn’t calling them “Halo” guns and they don’t look exactly like their counterparts.
Who said Halo?!?! Now you are in trouble! :)
They don’t look like they are exactly from Halo anyways, they are just future weapons created from a Lego fan. ;)
Also Dunechase, where did you get the dark green armor?
Good question. It’s unprinted dark green “Euro” armor that I got on BrickLink (worn backwards), but I can’t seem to find any sets that such a piece actually comes in. It was from a European seller, and they sometimes get “non-production” parts (including parts that would normally have printing on them) directly from LEGOLAND.
Finally! a good halo assault rifle! with Scorp’s decals I will finally have awesome minifigs!
I just wannaknow how do you do this guns.
(please somebody answer me)
I personally don’t like guns, I wish he would make some swords like Brickforge. But even though I don’t like them, I still have all of them.
