Most Star Wars fans know about the iconic X-Wing fighter made famous by Luke Skywalker’s trench run during the attack on the Death Star, but did you know about the sleek predecessor, the Z-95 Headhunter? swbuilds, who specializes in amazing LEGO Star Wars vehicles that are quite detailed, has turned their impressive skills to build this lesser-known starfighter in LEGO. The techniques used to craft the wings and fuselage with almost seamless connections is, to quote Darth Vader, “Impressive, most impressive.”

A LEGO monochrome microscale city
When I set out to build a white LEGO castle on a tall rocky cliff, I intended to make it medieval in style, inspired by illustrations of the Eyrie from George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire. But as the build progressed, and the structures took shape in brick, in my imagination, it began to take on a futuristic vibe. So, I decided to double down on that, removing many of the rounded elements I had started with. Adding stacks of smooth, square and rectangular levels, and increasing the number of individual structures left me with a sci-fi city.
Overall, I am quite happy with the finished product, with the many white structures contrasting the dark sand landscape, with the blend of old and modern architecture.
Get your LEGO game on with this fantastic Gameboy replica
Nostalgia for video game consoles and hand-helds is a very popular obsession with gamers of all ages so it is not surprising that LEGO fans are feeling it, too. And you can’t get much more classic than the Nintendo Gameboy. This homage by DanielBrickSon hits so hard, especially for me since I had one of these myself. I won’t show my age by telling you what my first hand-held game was (Okay, it was an LED football game)
The builder captures the iconic look of the Gameboy right down to the simple d-pad and buttons, the square screen with huge black borders, and the rounded outer case.
And if you are asking yourself if that game cartridge fits in the back… you bet your Charizard it does!

Floating through the sky with the world above you.
The most interesting part of this floating island scene by Jesse Gros, in my opinion, is not the elevated setting peeking in from the upper corner of the composition (which shows a tantalizing hint of a larger landscape) but rather the choice of the buildable planet of Coruscant used as the air-filled balloon for the small floating platform. The gray surface with geometric lines, combined with the clouds representing weathering, add visual interest to the otherwise simple design. A subtle but effective illustration of a city and mountains in the distance backs the scene.
The latest in a long line of tri-wing fighters launches for the rebellion
While the concept of the tri-wing fighter is nothing new to Star Wars, many people may not know about any other than the droid fighters of the Separatists from the prequel trilogy. In Star Wars Rebels and in Legends novels, the Empire also developed a tri-wing tie fighter spearheaded by Grand Admiral Thrawn. Here, Joshua Harrison imagines what a tri-wing would look like in LEGO from the same company that developed the X-wing and the snow speeder. While the triangular-shaped front end looks more like the Y-wing inspired it, the long wing arms and the gun clusters clearly have the iconic X-wing in their DNA. The only question I have is, how the heck does it land?
A sturdy little LEGO drone that packs a punch
While many LEGO builders are busy making rovers in February in honor of Febrover (the month-long tribute to space rovers of all kinds), Devid VII is cranking out a fleet of mechanized drones. LEGO blocks lend themselves to bulky mechs, but there is something about the clean lines of both the legs and the rocket launchers that make this drone feel like it is made of steel rather than plastic. The lanky arms holding a pair of machine guns add an unusual look to this mech.

This living LEGO airship sports the latest in alternative fuel: the blue blossom
Green or renewable energy is very popular in many countries, with electric vehicles, wind farms, and solar panels on rooftops. This flying ship by Dwalin Forkbeard features flower power. It’s the perfect mix of steampunk and fantasy. The complex engine sprouting tanks and gears contrasts the many branching limbs growing from the sides of the boat, which are well-shaped, with a few loose planks for that weathered look. The scene is perfectly finished with a subtle forest background.

A good feast is worth fighting for
These cute woodland citizens gathering acorns in this LEGO scene by Ids de Jong may look harmless, but they are armed and ready to defend their bountiful banquet. While the tree and the landscape are masterfully constructed, my favorite plants are the two winding dandelion flowers, which could make a lovely tea to help wash down those delicious nuts. Many builders have used the custom mouse heads from Crazy Bricks, but this builder digs deep into the LEGO archives for some Fabuland animal heads to create these memorable defenders.
