Anyone who grew up on first-person shooters like Doom or Quake should recognize a few things in Steve Marsh AKA Rubblemaker’s LEGO build: the industrialized aesthetic, the glimpse of some otherworldly monster just waiting to be riddled full of bullets, and of course the giant minigun.
The savvy player will keep their eye on the tentacled monstrosity coming through the tunnel ahead, but we viewers have the luxury of taking in the rest of the scene. And what a scene it is. What really immerses you in the environment is the detailed greebling and other industrial bric-a-brac. Here’s a closeup of some odds and ends . . .
. . . and an unfortunate robot lying in a heap below. In both pictures, the whip element is used to great effect to simulate tangled wires lying amidst coils of cable and loose parts. The picture below also gives you a better look at the ductwork behind the robot, which is more detailed than any random background texture has any right to be. We may or may not shoot the giant tentacled horror before us, but at least the environment is a surefire hit.
