Jellyfish are weird, aren’t they? It’s just a floating nervous system with tentacles. No wonder they make such a good basis for alien creations – and Korean builder DEES has served up a doozy in that regard! Let’s start with that most jellyfish of attributes: the tentacles. Loads of parts are used to make them up here, from trans-clear round bricks and flowers to a whole boatload of ball joints. The latter serves to accentuate the organic shapes of this creature, so wonderfully done on the body with inverted boat slopes and wheel arch pieces in all manner of pinks and blues.
Despite its obvious invertebrate influence, there’s no escaping the anthropomorphism on display. The body is shaped so that it almost looks like a skirt, with the top being the head and the arms being… Well, the arms. They give an extra air of menace, especially when the jelly goes into full ‘witness me!’ mode like it is here.
And the eagle-eyed among you will notice that a backdrop has been added between the first and second pictures. That is a nice bit of framing for this otherworldly build, but you know what steps it up another notch? Some moody lighting!
Hang on… Is that a face in there? I’m suddenly reminded – appropriately enough – of Medusa. Reader, I fear this picture may be the last thing we ever set eyes on…
