Florian Müller talks about the design process and challenges of LEGO 10282 Adidas Originals Superstar [News]

LEGO 10282 Adidas Originals Superstar was revealed just a few days ago, along with our in-depth review of the set and the announcement of Adidas Originals LEGO Superstar Sneaker. The designer, Florian Müller, talks about how he designed the shoe and the challenges he faced.

Florian has been wearing Superstar sneakers since he was 16 – he says it was obvious he would take the project. He says the biggest challenge was that there has never been a shoe made before, and he needed to create an organic shape with static, mostly square bricks. Then there was the challenge of creating a good building experience, along with a build that was sturdy. Florian had the opportunity to work with the Adidas Originals design team, and to get the insights and perspectives they had when designing a shoe.

He mentions two new elements made for the LEGO 10282 Adidas Originals Superstar: 5×5 dome and the shoelace. While the dome piece is printed for this set, he says we will probably see it in future sets. As for the shoelace, he’s curious what builders will create using this new element.

There’s a nice little hint throughout the video, which can be seen up-close around 1:40 in the video. It’s a mini-Adidas Originals Superstar sneaker, with inverted colors of the big version accompanied by a minifigure who seems to be wearing a shoebox. There’s a set, 40486 Mini Adidas Originals Superstar, which is most probably this one. However, there is no information on whether this will be a GWP yet.

LEGO 10282 Adidas Originals Superstar will be available on July 1 for US $79.99 | CAN $109.99 | UK £79.99.
