Summer 2018 wave of LEGO sets now available, including Arctic, Architecture, Ant-Man, Friends, and more [News]

The summer 2018 wave of LEGO sets is now available from the LEGO Shop, including many of the sets we highlighted from New York during the Fall 2018 Preview event a couple of weeks ago. The latest assortment from LEGO includes LEGO City Arctic Expedition sets with a mammoth and saber-toothed cats, two new LEGO Architecture sets, LEGO Friends, the new Marvel Ant-Man set, Pirate Roller-Coaster, and more.

Click through to see the full assortment, including several LEGO sets only available now to readers in the UK.

LEGO City: Arctic Expedition & City People Pack

The new LEGO Trains are scheduled for release in August (though look for our reviews of both new sets soon), but there’s lots to love in the new Arctic Expedition sets, which include Pleistocene megafauna — big animals from the Ice Age like a mammoth and saber-toothed “tiger”. If you want the mammoth, you’ll need to shell out $119.99 for 60195 Arctic Mobile Exploration Base (149.99 CAD in Canada | £84.99 in the UK), which includes 786 pieces and 6 minifigures along with the extinct proboscidean. Note that the largest set is the only one that includes the mammoth.

The least expensive set that includes the saber-toothed cat is 60193 Arctic Air Transport at $39.99 (49.99 CAD in Canada | £24.99 in the UK) for 277 pieces and 2 minifigs (the big cat is also available in 60196 Arctic Supply Plane for $79.99).

The new LEGO City sets also include 60202 Outdoor Adventures People Pack for $39.99 (49.99 CAD in Canada | £34.99 in the UK) with 14 minifigures and a bald eagle.

LEGO Architecture: Great Wall of China & Statue of Liberty

Iconic landmarks in China and America join the next wave of LEGO Architecture sets. 21041 Great Wall of China includes 551 pieces and will retail for $49.99. However, the set is only available so far in the UK at £44.99 (with an August 1st release date in the US and Canada).

Across the Pacific and the continent of North America from the Great Wall, “Lady Liberty” stands in New York Harbor to welcome everyone to the United States of America. 21042 Statue of Liberty (139.99 CAD in Canada | £89.99 in the UK) includes 1,685 pieces — rather a bit taller than the microscopic, single-piece Statue of Liberty in 21028 New York City.

LEGO Creator: Two new roller-coasters

We reported a couple weeks ago that the massive Creator Expert 10261 Roller Coaster was available early to LEGO VIP program members. The 4,124-piece set is now available to everybody, with a retail price of $379.99 (479.99 CAD in Canada | £299.99 in the UK).

If $380 for a roller-coaster isn’t your style, consider picking up the new 31084 Creator 3-in-1 Pirate Roller Coaster instead. The roller-coaster track includes a full circuit, with 923 pieces and 4 minifigs at $89.99 (109.99 CAD in Canada | £69.99 in the UK).

And of course, don’t forget that 70922 Joker Manor is still available (though with purple track sections and at a non-trivial price of $270).

LEGO Friends: More roller-coaster goodness

LEGO designers are putting the new roller-coaster tracks in all sorts of new sets this year, including some of the new LEGO Friends sets. 41347 Heartlake City Resort ($99.99 with 1,017 pieces) includes several curved and straight flat track sections in gray. Unfortunately again, it’s only available on June 1st in the UK at £89.99, with an August 1st release in the US and Canada

Several of the latest LEGO Friends sets are automotive-themed, and 41352 The Big Race Day ($59.99 with 648 pieces | 79.99 CAD in Canada | £49.99 in the UK) includes a starting arch with roller-coaster curves similar to the one in the LEGO Speed Champions set 75889 Ferrari Ultimate Garage.

LEGO Marvel Super-Heroes: Ant-Man & the Wasp

The next movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is the sequel to 2015’s Ant-Man, titled simply Ant-Man & the Wasp. In contrast to the huge assortment allotted Avengers: Infinity War, Ant-Man gets just one tie-in set, 76109 Quantum Realm Explorers, which includes the two titular characters along with Ghost. The set includes 200 pieces and retails for $19.99 (24.99 CAD in Canada | £19.99 in the UK).

More new sets for builders in the UK

If you’re reading this in the UK, even more of the upcoming LEGO sets are already available to you. Particularly notable is that 70657 Ninjago City Docks is available now, at £199.99 for 3,553 pieces and 13 minifigs.

Unfortunately, our readers in the US will have to wait until August 1st to pick up this next addition to The Ninjago Movie modular series. In the meantime, you can read all about 70657 Ninjago City Docks in our hands-on review.

Similarly, the full assortment of Unikitty! TV show sets is available now in the UK, including even more roller-coaster goodness in sets like 41456 Unikingdom Fairground Fun with 7 buildable characters with 515 pieces for £39.99.

In what is sure to be a nightmare for our readers who rely on feeling blind bags to see what’s inside, the Unikitty Collectibles Series 1 bags are also available in the UK.

Totally want the unikitty, but torn I can’t feel it out. The feel out is half the fun. Sorry for the phrasing weirdness. I see four with ball tails, six with mane tails and two are “sitting”. Any other I’d methods?

Nah, there are just three different shapes for the Blind Bags. The meanest assortment since the German soccer team…
