Friday Night Fights (Round 17)

Welcome back fight fans, to Sin City Nevada for another bare-knuckle edition of Friday Night Fights! Tonight’s bout is a rematch of the most recent Iron Builder battle; a chance for redemption or utter humiliation with YOU the public as the ultimate judge instead of a panel of highly acclaimed turbo-nerds. Let’s go to the tale of the tape:

Fighting out of the red corner, from The Great White North…“Punchy” Pascal (pasukaru76) and his “Ferroconstructosaurus“.

Ferroconstructosaurus

And fighting out of the blue corner, from “The land of green shins“… Gilcélio “El Guapo” Chagas and his “Star Wars“.

STAR WARS

As usual, constant reader, you are tasked with deciding the outcome of this pugilistic endeavor by way of comment. On the last record breaking edition of Friday Night Fights, the battle of Hipster vs. Manga-Nerd, Mike Dung emerged the battered victor by a narrow margin of 10-8. Tune in next week for another action packed edition of Friday Night Fights!

I would have no right to judge an Iron Builder, but I’ll weigh in as a defeated Lego hipster (using the same criteria as the IB judges). Building skill (very subjective) – Gilcélio, for the way the edge of the TIE wing is created. Presentation – Gilcélio, for the Goldmanesque technique of filling the canvas and not over using cologne. Use of seed part – Pascal, for the way the part is highlighted, used in repetition and creates a new meaning. 2-1 for Gilcélio.

Since I have been a judge of IB, I hope turbonerds can still vote. ;) Both great builds here.
Building skill: 15 for Pascal. He has some really good angles going on, though the rest is relatively simple. 17 for Gilcelio. He has a larger and somewhat more complex backdrop, and the wings on the Tie are sheer brilliance.
Presentation: 17 for Pascal. Excellent composition, flawless photography, and great edit. Lacks the oomph factor though. 19 for Gilcelio. Excellent photography and composition, and the crop lettering are the real deal.
Use of mystery part: 17 for Pascal. The piece is crucial to the MOC and very well used. 13 for Gilcelio. While it is used well, it seems to take a backseat to everything else and many other pieces could have worked equally well in its stead.
Total: 49 for Pascal, 49 for Gilcelio. However, as the use of the seed part has no relevance in Friday Night Fights, Gilcelio has my vote!

I ‘liked’ Pascal’s Ferroconstructosaurus quite some time ago and nothing has changed – still like it. My vote goes to him, though Gilcélio’s micro is also a little gem.

I love Star Wars like I love my mother, but one can only get excited about the first 8 billion or so LEGO reconstructions of one’s mother, dig?

Ferroconstructosaurus looks like my uncle, so I’m going with that.

If I weren’t such a stickler about the appropriate angles for a TIE fighter wing I might vote for Star Wars.

Ferroconstructosaurus has no precedent however. Let the museum model have my vote.

  6. IronBricks

I was rooting for Pascal in the Iron Builder, and I still love this Ferroconstructosaurus, so I’m going with that.
