Very nice build with a lot of great pieces. Do I see the new quarter domes in white?
But the Star Wars markup ruins it–that price-per-element is just absurd even for a SW set. Compare with other sets at the $99 price point: Emerald Night at 1085 pieces, Shuttle Adventure at 1204, Medieval Market Village at 1601 (!!!).
That kind of markup is understandable for the sets with big specialized elements like an airplane fuselage or train tracks, but the only thing justifying it here is that it’s SW.
I saw this on Flickr a couple of hours ago. I thought it was your creation, Dan! I’m glad I didn’t comment and look like a complete dummy. :)
Man these UCS sets that they’re suddenly churning out are really hit or miss it seems. Again, like the shuttle, it’s a beautiful design…but it would’ve been a lot more enticing at a more realistic price of $75. Even then it would have been significantly over the $0.10/piece golden rule, but at least it would be more within reason. I may or may not go for it…but I think I’ll just wait for it to go on sale.
Love to pick this up but I agree with everyone above…it’s just too high a price for just under 700 pieces. I get the licensing but I’d say this should be like $80 bucks tops (maybe it’s the astromechs dome and printed plaque that raises the price?).
Even the UCS Imperial Shuttle is a better price to parts with over 2500 pieces for $250 bucks.
But again, the Starfighter is a lovely model so I hope it’ll last til a sale sometime after Xmas of this year. Rather save for the UCS Imperial Shuttle ‘natch!
