Massive power loader takes on enormous Xenomorph in LEGO sci-fi battle of the ages

Alien creations appear to be like London buses. You wait ages for some great LEGO creations, and then two come along within a few days of each other! We featured a wonderful Miniland scale power loader earlier this week (along with an excellent title, I may add). But one-time LEGO Masters Australia winner Henry Pinto has upped the load-rating on the power loader, and then some! He’s made a truly titanic take on Ellen Ripley’s yellow ride. But that’s not the only big build here. After all, what’s a power loader without a Xenomorph to chuck around the USS Sulaco’s lower decks?

Power Loader vs Xenomorph

Let’s start with the alien that gives the movie its name. It’s a topic that has been visited many, many times in LEGO bricks over the years, but I’ll never tire of seeing different builders’ takes on it. The large scale of Henry’s build allows for some terrific detailing. The head in particular is a real highlight: a constraction armour piece is the perfect choice for the forehead. Ditto, the gears for teeth.

And just in case it didn’t look ominous enough on its own, that base hides some red mood lighting.

Lights are one of the signature party tricks of this power loader, too. When I see large builds like this, I often wonder if the scale was dictated by a certain part choice. The ones mentioned above for the Xenomorph queen are obvious examples, but the head of this mech’s pilot is another candidate. (It comes from the Jyn Erso constraction figure, incidentally – a set infamous for its, ahem, extended shelf life).

The Power Loader

This is more of a riff on the power loader than a brick-perfect replica – but that’s no bad thing! It’s fantastic to see builders like Henry put their own spin on such icons of film and TV. Especially so when it results in such fantastically detailed builds. I love all the pneumatic tubing on the back, for instance!

The spotlights make for a really photogenic pair of builds, too. Both the photo at the top of the article and this one could be pulled straight from movie posters. And when that happens, you know you’ve built a winner!
