We don’t often get a large-scale LEGO creation from Geng Lei, but when a new model drops, it’s always an event. Geng’s Yu Xin Pavilion is approximately 2 feet deep, 3 feet wide, and 4.5 feet tall built from a bright yet harmonious mix of colors. The fantastical take on classical Chinese architecture includes flying eaves, paifang gates, and whimsical dragon detailing. A build this epic deserves a closer look!
Traditional Chinese architecture incorporates bright colors with symbolic significance. Green, symbolizing the element of wood, is commonly used for temple roofs.
Geng breaks up the immense brick walls with beautiful golden designs. Every bit of edging has an ornate design. I especially like the gold dragon wrapped around this pillar.
This version above is the second and smaller version of Yu Xin Pavilion, as the builder needed to reduce the footprint in order to fit the massive model in a display cabinet. Here is Geng standing next to the incredible original, which also features a Buddha beneath the tower.
Geng competed on LEGO Masters China where his partner was TBB regular Dicken Liu. A photographer by trade, Geng made sure to capture his day job in his sigfig, seen here visiting the Pavilion.
