Immersive LEGO scenes fill the frame with bricks and make you feel like you’re getting a glimpse into another world. Hejjo Demokowicz demonstrates a mastery of the form with his series of steampunk districts that began in 2022, each depicting a solitary figure beginning a journey. The latest entry, District 3, depicts a snowy, urban realm. Hejjo draws on an eclectic mix of rounded parts for the white snow and the nougat path for a lush texture. Wrought ironwork impresses in both the foreground gate and the ornate station awnings in the background. A solitary character stuns with clever parts usage, such as eggs for arms, helmet shoulders, and a pirate’s beard as trailing hair.
District 2 features a station overgrown with vegetation. A Bellville figure and Friends pet allow for a larger than minifig scale. Hejjo really shines with the photography here, using a shallow depth of field to put the focus on the character and her anticipation as the tram approaches.
Finishing off the series in reverse chronological order we see District 1, which utilizes a fully industrial Steampunk aesthetic. Once again, a larger scale allows for incredible detail and creative use of parts, like a guardrail made of lanterns. I don’t know which impresses me more, the iron archway or the intricate cable system atop the tram.
What wondrous sites with the next District reveal, I wonder?
Inspiring.

I would never submit a comment on a non-lego item, but just wanted All to know that this entry reminds me of such other artists as Greg Olijnyk — and though not Lego, may indeed provide a fantastical inspiration to those creative Block geniuses out there. (sorry for the not-quite-lego tip)(also, this site has displayed a few amazing lego masterpieces in the past, just search)
