A mad scientist’s lab you won’t want to leave

In the early 2010s, while most people were watching LOST, I was engrossed in the mysteries of a different show: Fringe. It ran for five seasons before its unjust cancellation, but not before it proved itself to be one of the most thoughtful, creative, and well-written sci-fi shows on air. With that preface to anyone who missed out on Fringe‘s initial run, ledamu12‘s detailed LEGO recreation of Walter Bishop’s lab is a welcome blast from the past.

The show came in a case-of-the-week format with an overarching storyline that eventually made use of the multiverse concept before it was cool. One of those early cases of the week is featured here, in which a mysterious pathogen causes its victims’ skin to grow over all their orifices (yuck). One such poor victim lies on the table between FBI Agent Olivia Dunham and the show’s heart, the complex mad scientist Walter Bishop. (From a parts use standpoint, I love the sloped elements that convey the minifig’s legs under a sheet.)

Keep exploring the lab for more great references to the show: here we find a sensory deprivation chamber next to a blackboard full of Walter’s scrawled notes.

The lab extension reveals an abundance of scientific equipment—along with Gene the cow. What did Walter end up using the cow for? That’s one of the show’s most enduring mysteries.
