The Brothers Brick

2018 LEGO Advent Calendars, Day 12

Welcome to Day 12 of our LEGO Advent Calendar countdown. Each day, we’ll reveal the three mini-builds from the LEGO Star WarsLEGO Friends, and LEGO City 2018 advent calendars along with commentary from The Brothers Brick team.

If you’re opening one (or more) of these advent calendars along with us, we’ve made sure the pictures and commentary on each day’s models will be behind a jump so we don’t accidentally ruin the surprise. What did the elves bring on Day 12?

For Day 12, we have Anakin’s Starfighter from Star Wars, a trophy ornament from Friends, and an ice cream machine from City.

Nick: Mid-December is prime time for an ice cream cone, didn’t you know?

Andrew: What am I looking at here in the center? Is that supposed to be an award? The ice cream machine is certainly fun, but an odd choice for the generally winter-themed Advent Calendars. Anakin’s Starfighter is an updated design from the 2014 advent, using the corner baby bow pieces.

Daniel:  The new version of Anakin’s Starfighter is the perfect companion to the newly released minifig-scale model 75214. Man, that trophy wins the award for worst brick-built trophy. It looks more like a flattened toilet.

Chris: Is it just me, or does the trophy look more like a medal? Anakin’s Starfighter makes excellent use of the new wedge slopes though, and is probably the best version of the ship in small microscale yet!

Edwinder Not really feeling the the Starfighter, and the ice cream dispenser is making me hungry. That centerpiece is something I really can’t identify with. I dunno what it is, sorry.

Dave: I love the white 1×1 round plate for R2-D2. Does that now count as the smallest (and arguably cutest) scaled variant of the droid!? Andrew and Chris, you have to update your Ultimate LEGO Star Wars book!
